2026 Kia EV5 Air

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • For everyday driving, the EV5 Air combines an 81.4 kWh battery with a practical real-world range.

  • Clean surfaces and proportion are prioritized over visual violence in design.

  • Kia's emphasis on functionality rather than innovation is highlighted by the interior packaging and charging capability.

The vehicle's dimensions and design

The 2026 Kia EV5 Air exudes calm assurance.

In the press images, the stance is upright and squared-off, clearly aligned with Kia’s recent SUV design language. The body sides are flat and unembellished, with sharp shut lines and a relatively high beltline that gives the car visual solidity without appearing bulky.

At 4,610 mm long with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the EV5 sits neatly between compact and mid-size segments. The proportions feel deliberate. Short overhangs and a tall roofline suggest interior space was prioritized early in the design process. The Magma Red finish shown in official material adds warmth to what is otherwise a very controlled, geometric shape. Eighteen-inch wheels fill the arches without pushing into sport-oriented territory, reinforcing the EV5 Air’s everyday brief.

Performance and Powertrain Overview

Under the floor sits an 81.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery feeding a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor. Output is rated at 214 bhp with 295 Nm of torque, enough to move the EV5 Air from 0 to 62 mph in 8.4 seconds. These figures are not intended to impress on paper. They are tuned for predictability and smooth delivery.

The EV5 Air’s WLTP combined range is quoted at 329 miles, with city driving extending that figure significantly. In real terms, this positions the car as a credible single-vehicle EV for households transitioning away from combustion power. Charging capability reflects the same balance. The EV5 uses a 400-volt architecture with a maximum DC charging rate of 127 kW, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions.

Key Features and Interior Impression

Inside, the EV5 Air adopts a calm, functional layout. A discrete 5.3-inch temperature control panel sits between two 12.3-inch screens that handle entertainment and driver information. The structure lessens the need for multilayer menus by keeping frequently used features visible and accessible.

Materials lean toward durability rather than luxury signaling. Black cloth upholstery, metal-painted interior handles, and a grey headlining give the cabin a neutral tone. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard, reinforcing comfort in colder climates. Storage is a clear strength. A 566-litre rear boot expands substantially with the rear seats folded, while a small front trunk adds flexibility for charging cables or smaller items. USB-C ports are spread throughout the cabin, reflecting modern usage patterns.

Market Positioning and Segment Context

Priced at £39,345 on the road in the UK, the 2026 Kia EV5 Air positions itself as a rational alternative in a crowded electric SUV segment. It does not chase premium branding or overt sportiness. Instead, it competes on range, interior space, warranty coverage, and ease of ownership.

Against rivals that emphasize performance or styling drama, the EV5 Air takes a quieter route. It is designed to fit into daily routines with minimal friction. That approach aligns closely with Kia’s broader EV strategy, one that values accessibility and long-term usability over short-term spectacle.
