2025 Jeep Cherokee Overland

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Jeep embraces a boxier silhouette reminiscent of the original XJ Cherokee, featuring a squared-off grille, U-shaped lighting elements, and a longer wheelbase for more interior space.

  • The SUV debuts with a hybrid-only powertrain—combining a 1.6L turbocharged engine with two electric motors for 210 hp and 230 lb‑ft. Fuel economy reaches 37 mpg, and range exceeds 500 miles. Standard AWD includes a rear-axle disconnect for efficiency.

  • Starting at $36,995, the Cherokee is priced lower than its predecessor. Available trims include Base, Laredo, Limited, and Overland, with higher-end models arriving first.

Design That Honors Its Roots

Jeep reshaped the Cherokee with a bold stance and purposeful lines. The front fascia merges the traditional seven-slot grille with blocky, modern lighting—creating a look that feels both retro and future-ready. Proportions have grown, with a length increase of five inches and a stretch in the wheelbase to 113 in, enhancing cargo and passenger space.

Hybrid Powertrain: Efficiency Meets Capability

Power comes from a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine paired with two electric motors and a small battery pack (~1 kWh). Output is rated at 210 hp and 230 lb-ft. The SUV returns a strong 37 mpg combined and offers over 500 miles of range. Delivering power through a CVT to an all-wheel-drive system with rear-axle disconnect, the Cherokee retains Jeep’s off-road capability. Tow rating stands at 3,500 pounds, ground clearance at 8 inches, and approach and departure angles at 19.6° and 29.4°, respectively.

Interior and Tech — Elevated and Vegged Out

Inside, the Cherokee gets a full redesign. A standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Uconnect 5, wireless smartphone mirroring, and a digital gauge cluster are featured. Horizontal styling lines, integrated climate vents, and upscale materials improve the cabin ambiance. Passenger room increases across the board, and cargo capacity grows roughly 30 percent, placing it among the spacious offerings in its class.

Safety and Driving Assistance

The 2026 Cherokee includes over 140 standard or available safety features, including semi-autonomous Active Driving Assist (which helps with lane centering and adaptive speed), Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection.

At a starting price of $36,995, the Cherokee undercuts its predecessor while delivering modern hybrid efficiency and added capability. Higher trims—Laredo, Limited, Overland—range to about $45,995. This pricing positions it snugly between Compass and Grand Cherokee in Jeep’s lineup. Anticipated rivals include hybrid-heavy SUVs such as the RAV4 Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, and Subaru Forester.
