2026 JAC Hunter X PHEV Priced for Australia
The 2026 JAC Hunter X PHEV is almost ready to reach Australian dealerships, and JAC Motors Australia has now confirmed how much buyers can expect to pay for its flagship plug-in hybrid ute. Priced from $54,844 plus on-road costs, the Hunter X enters a growing segment with a focus on power, towing capability, and generous standard equipment rather than simply chasing the lowest sticker price.
Built for Australian conditions
Before reaching customers, the Hunter underwent more than 100,000 kilometres of local testing across Australian roads. The program covered towing, durability, heavy loads, hot-weather conditions, and both sealed and unsealed surfaces.
JAC also worked with Australian vehicle dynamics engineer Michael Barber throughout the development process. According to the company, every recommendation from the local evaluation program was incorporated before production vehicles were signed off, with the goal of delivering a ute that feels properly suited to Australian conditions rather than simply adapted for them.
Strong numbers back the hybrid system
The Hunter X combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with front and rear electric motors, producing a combined 360kW and 1010Nm of combined driveline torque. JAC claims fuel consumption of 1.6L/100km (NEDC), a combined driving range of 1005km, and up to 100km of electric-only driving under NEDC testing.
Practical capability remains a major part of the package. The Hunter X offers up to 3,500kg of braked towing capacity and a 915kg payload, placing it among the more capable plug-in hybrid utes on the Australian market.
Flagship equipment adds everyday comfort
While both Hunter grades share the same powertrain and core capability, the Hunter X adds a number of premium features over the Pro model.
Standard equipment includes front and rear differential locks, a black exterior styling package, heated front seats, a four-way power passenger seat, a 360-degree panoramic camera, front parking sensors, power-folding mirrors, black roof rails, rear privacy glass, welcome puddle lamps, and a rear 220-volt accessory socket. These upgrades are aimed at buyers who want a ute that's equally comfortable on long highway trips and weekend adventures.
Arriving in Australian showrooms soon
Reservations for the Hunter are already open ahead of showroom arrivals scheduled for August 2026. JAC is also encouraging early buyers with a refundable $1,000 reservation program. The first 1,000 customers who reserve and take delivery can choose between a complimentary home EV charger or a $500 JAC Genuine Accessories voucher.
With competitive pricing, substantial local testing, and a specification that combines plug-in hybrid efficiency with genuine towing credentials, the 2026 JAC Hunter X PHEV enters the Australian ute market with a clear focus. Rather than asking buyers to compromise between electrification and capability, it aims to deliver both in one package.
