Stronger stance, cleaner lines
At first glance, the 2026 MU-X looks more confident than before. The grille is bigger and carries more detail, framed by slimmer LED headlights that lift the SUV’s expression. The rear has been tidied up too, with new light graphics and subtle trim changes that make it look a touch more modern without losing its square-shouldered stance.
Isuzu hasn’t tried to reinvent the MU-X visually, but the tweaks make it more contemporary and more in line with what buyers expect from a large SUV in 2026.
Cabin built for families
Inside, the updates feel more noticeable. A larger infotainment screen now sits at the center of the dash, running software that’s easier to navigate and supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Instrument displays are clearer, and new trim materials bring a fresher look to the cabin.
There’s attention to everyday detail as well: more charging ports dotted around, better storage solutions, and revised seats that aim to improve long-distance comfort. With space for seven, the MU-X remains squarely targeted at families who need versatility without stepping into something too premium or fragile.
Proven diesel power
Mechanically, the Australian MU-X sticks with what works. The 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine continues under the bonnet, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Output figures haven’t been highlighted as dramatically as rivals, but what matters most here is torque — and that’s what makes the MU-X such a capable tow vehicle.
Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options are available, giving buyers flexibility depending on their needs. For those towing caravans or heading off the beaten path, the 3.5-tonne towing capacity (a selling point that’s stuck with the MU-X) will be what keeps them interested.
Off-road confidence still intact
The MU-X keeps its ladder-frame chassis, a hallmark of durability and off-road strength. Four-wheel drive versions come with selectable drive modes, underbody protection, and electronic traction aids to keep things moving in tougher terrain.
Ground clearance and approach/departure angles remain competitive, making the MU-X suitable for gravel tracks, beach runs, or the sort of rugged touring Australians routinely ask of their big SUVs. It’s not pretending to be soft-road only — the capability is still there.
Safety and driver tech
Isuzu has sharpened the MU-X’s safety offering, rolling in its latest driver assistance systems. Adaptive cruise control now includes stop-and-go functionality, lane-keeping assistance has been improved, and the standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert give extra assurance in traffic.
Higher trims also benefit from a 360-degree camera, making the big SUV less daunting in tight car parks. It’s a package that puts the MU-X on firmer footing against rivals like Toyota’s Fortuner and Ford’s Everest.
