2026 iCar V27
By Lorenzo Bianchi September 11, 2025
Hybrid EV setup: 1.5-litre turbo engine works as generator only; electric motors drive the wheels.
Big dimensions: Over 5 meters long with boxy design, spare-tyre backpack, and rugged details.
Market launch: Q4 2025 in China, priced ¥200,000–250,000, exports under “iCaur V27.”
Flagship for the iCar Brand
Chery has pulled the covers off its biggest SUV yet. The iCar V27, also branded as iCaur V27 overseas, takes aim at established off-road icons with a formula mixing classic styling and a range-extended EV system.
At 5,045 mm long, 1,976 mm wide, and 1,894 mm tall, the V27 dwarfs earlier iCar models and marks the brand’s step into flagship territory. A wheelbase of nearly three meters supports its upright profile, while curb weight tips past two tons depending on spec.
REEV Powertrain and Range
Under the skin sits a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine—but it never drives the wheels. Instead, it acts purely as a generator to charge the battery and extend range. Propulsion comes from rear- or dual-motor setups:
- RWD: Single motor at the rear.
- AWD: Dual motors, combined output ~335 kW (≈449 hp).
Electric-only range is listed at about 200 km (CLTC), while the total range when factoring the generator surpasses 1,000 km. Top speed is around 180 km/h.
Rugged Retro Styling
The V27 leans into off-road character:
- Round LED headlights and square profile with short overhangs.
- Two-tone grille and chunky wheel arches.
- Side-hinged tailgate with spare-tyre “backpack.”
- 19- or 21-inch wheels, with 255/55R19 or 265/45R21 tyres.
It’s a design clearly pitched at buyers who like the presence of a Land Rover Defender or Toyota LandCruiser, but wrapped in a Chinese EV-hybrid interpretation.
Technology and Interior
Inside, the V27 is expected to deliver a premium cabin with wide digital screens, smart infotainment, and multiple ADAS features. Early previews mention:
- LiDAR sensors supporting semi-autonomous driving.
- 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise.
- Panoramic roof options, plus luxury seating layouts.
Pricing and Market Positioning
The V27 goes on sale in China in Q4 2025, with pricing estimated at ¥200,000–250,000 (~US$28,000–35,000). That undercuts imported rivals while offering more EV range and hybrid flexibility.
