2026 Hyundai Elexio Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Elexio launches in Australia in Q1 2026 as a single Elite specification.

  • A 160kW front-drive setup delivers a WLTP range of 546km.

  • Local suspension and steering tuning has been developed specifically for Australian roads.

Clean proportions signal a family-first brief

The 2026 Hyundai Elexio Australian Version makes its intentions clear before a wheel turns. Sized between the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5, the medium SUV adopts a calm, horizontal design language that favours balance over visual aggression. The silhouette is smooth and uninterrupted, with layered front and rear treatments that widen the car visually and give it a grounded, stable stance.

At 4,615mm long with a 2,750mm wheelbase, the Elexio’s proportions suggest interior space was prioritised early in the design process. Short overhangs and 20-inch wheels help it sit confidently on the road without drifting into oversized territory. Five exterior colours will be offered locally, including Crystal White as standard, with Medium Grey, Pebble Blue, Dragon Red, and Phantom Black available as premium mica finishes.

Interior space and technology lead the experience

Inside, the Elexio leans heavily into simplicity and usability. Structural lines and soft curves define the cabin, creating what Hyundai describes as a harmonious atmosphere rather than a technical showcase. Leather-appointed seating is standard, offered in either Obsidian Black or Dove Grey, and both front seats feature heating and ventilation.

The Elexio will be the first Hyundai in Australia to launch with the new Connect-C infotainment system. Built on Android Automotive OS, it centres around a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display that integrates instrumentation and infotainment into a single horizontal visual field. A head-up display is also standard, keeping key information in the driver’s line of sight.

Practicality is clearly part of the brief. A 506-litre cargo area expands to 1,540 litres with the rear seats folded, positioning the Elexio squarely as a family-focused EV rather than a niche lifestyle offering.

Powertrain tuned for real-world use

Elexio launches in Australia with a single powertrain: a front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 310Nm, paired with an 88kWh LFP battery. Hyundai quotes a WLTP driving range of 546km, with energy consumption rated at 18.2kWh/100km. Built on a 400V E-GMP platform, the Elexio can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 38 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.

What differentiates the Australian version is local chassis development. Hyundai engineers worked alongside the Australian ride and handling team to deliver bespoke suspension and steering tuning. Springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars were evaluated locally, aiming to balance comfort, refinement, and stability across Australia’s varied road conditions.

Positioning and pricing clarity

The 2026 Hyundai Elexio will be offered in a single Elite grade priced at $59,990 drive-away for private and fleet buyers. That positioning places it directly in the heart of the medium electric SUV segment, with a clear emphasis on value, space, and specification rather than multiple trim walk-ups.

For Hyundai, Elexio represents a methodical expansion of its EV lineup. It does not chase extremes.
