Honda Refreshes The City Hybrid Sedan

The 2026 Honda City eHEV proves there is still room for the affordable compact sedan, particularly in markets where practicality and fuel efficiency continue to matter more than crossover trends. Honda has officially revealed the facelifted version of the City for India, introducing a cleaner exterior design and a more technology-focused cabin while leaving the mechanical package untouched.

This marks the second facelift for the fifth-generation City that first appeared in 2019. The updates are clearly aimed at keeping the sedan relevant against rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.

Revised Front End Gives The Sedan A Wider Look

The most obvious change appears at the nose.

Honda has reshaped the front fascia with slimmer headlights linked by a full-width LED strip running above the grille. The treatment borrows heavily from larger Honda sedans including the Accord and Civic, giving the City a more mature appearance than before.

The older chrome-heavy grille treatment has disappeared completely. In its place sits a honeycomb-pattern grille with the Honda emblem repositioned lower on the nose. Combined with the sharper bumper intakes, the sedan now carries a noticeably more angular expression.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, though Honda has added fresh 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a new Crystal Black Pearl paint option to help distinguish the facelift from the outgoing version.

At the rear, revised taillights with clearer lenses and updated LED graphics modernize the design without dramatically altering the car’s proportions. The bumper has also been reshaped with a diffuser-style lower section integrated underneath.

Cabin Technology Takes Priority

Inside, Honda has focused more on technology and comfort upgrades than outright redesign.

The biggest visual change is the larger 10.1-inch infotainment display replacing the older 8-inch unit. The dashboard itself remains mostly familiar, which makes the new screen stand out more prominently than before.

Higher trims receive a fairly comprehensive list of features including ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, an eight-speaker audio system and a panoramic-style sunroof. Ivory leather upholstery also appears on premium variants.

Honda has also expanded the safety package. A 360-degree camera system and Level 2 ADAS are now available on upper trims, adding more advanced driver assistance equipment than earlier versions of the sedan offered.

Hybrid Powertrain Carries Over Unchanged

Under the hood, the 2026 Honda City eHEV continues with the same hybrid setup as before.

The e:HEV system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with electric assistance for a combined output of 125 hp, paired exclusively with an e-CVT transmission. Honda also continues offering the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 119 hp with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

Pricing remains largely unchanged despite the updates. The range still starts at Rs 11.99 lakh for the base petrol variant, while the top ZX+ hybrid reaches Rs 21 lakh.
