A new concept arrives with a new design studio
General Motors used the opening of its new Advanced Design campus in Pasadena, California, to unveil the 2026 GMC Hummer X Truck Concept, a futuristic electric pickup created to explore ideas well beyond today's production vehicles.
The truck was revealed alongside an SUV counterpart, both serving as rolling design studies rather than previews of upcoming showroom models. According to GM, the project was developed through collaboration between Advanced Design, Advanced Engineering, and Advanced Manufacturing teams, with an emphasis on experimentation rather than commercial feasibility.
That freedom is evident from the first glance.
Rugged proportions with an industrial edge
The Hummer X Truck Concept looks every bit like an off-road machine, though it approaches the familiar Hummer formula from a different angle.
The body features a flat-topped silhouette, clean surfaces, rounded edges, and exposed precision fasteners. Rather than hiding the construction details, the design makes them part of the visual identity. Laser-welded seams remain visible, giving the truck a more technical appearance than most modern pickups.
Its proportions suggest a compact-to-mid-size truck, though exact dimensions remain [Unverified]. What stands out most is the stance. Large tires fill the wheel openings, the body sits high above the ground, and the overall shape feels purpose-built for rough terrain.
A cabin built around customization
Inside, the truck continues the same modular thinking.
GM describes a cockpit with stackable displays that can be configured according to the driver's needs. Whether navigating a rocky trail, exploring remote terrain, or simply traveling between destinations, the interface is designed to adapt rather than remain fixed.
Specific interior measurements and seating details were not disclosed, but flexibility appears to have been a key priority throughout the project.
Off road capability remains central
Even though the Hummer X is a concept, GM clearly imagined it as a serious trail machine.
The truck rides on massive 35- to 37-inch Goodyear tires mounted on beadlock wheels. Multimatic shocks, removable fender flares, substantial underbody protection, and a low center of gravity all contribute to its intended off-road character.
GM also references strong electric acceleration, although performance figures have not been released. As a result, any assumptions regarding power output or driving range would be [Speculation].
Community and sustainability shape the concept
Beyond the hardware, the Hummer X explores how future vehicles could interact with their owners.
A connected ecosystem known as HUMMER HUB was developed around the concept. One of its more unusual ideas is a scout drone capable of flying ahead of the vehicle, collecting terrain information, and returning automatically after the route has been assessed.
Sustainability is equally important to the project's mission. Designers experimented with recyclable mono-material components, reduced reliance on adhesives, and the use of recycled automotive plastics throughout the interior. Parts are also designed for easier removal and reuse.
