2026 GAC Motor EMZOOM Premium

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 GAC EMZOOM Premium starts at $22,990 driveaway nationwide, undercutting the existing EMZOOM Luxury's $26,990 starting price.

  • It's powered by the same 1.5-litre turbo engine as the Luxury grade, producing 125kW and 270Nm through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

  • GAC backs the Premium with a seven-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, positioning it as a value-focused entry point into the EMZOOM range.

GAC has widened its EMZOOM lineup in Australia with the Premium grade, a more affordable version of the small SUV priced from $22,990 driveaway. Announced August 1 out of Sydney, the new trim sits below the existing EMZOOM Luxury, which starts at $26,990, and GAC is framing it as a straightforward, no-frills option for buyers who don't need every available feature.

Exterior design observations

Premium carries the same "Flying Wing" front grille as the Luxury grade, along with LED automatic headlights with height adjustment, LED daytime running lights and a rear fog light. Where the two trims diverge is in the details: Premium uses mechanical rotary door handles rather than the Luxury's electric hidden units, and its exterior mirrors adjust electrically but don't fold or defrost. Premium also rides on smaller 215/60 R17 tyres compared with the Luxury's 225/55 R18s, and misses out on the panoramic sunroof, electric sunshade and smart power tailgate fitted to the pricier trim.

Vehicle proportions and stance

Both EMZOOM trims share identical dimensions: 4,410mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,600mm tall, on a 2,650mm wheelbase with 145mm of ground clearance. Premium's kerb weight comes in slightly lighter at 1,370kg against the Luxury's 1,415kg, a difference largely down to the equipment left off the cheaper grade.

Interior space and technology

Inside, Premium keeps leather seating and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel as standard, along with a 14.6-inch touchscreen running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Driver's seat adjustment is six-way but manual rather than powered, and single-zone automatic air conditioning replaces the dual-zone setup often seen on higher grades. Items skipped on Premium include interior ambient lighting, a ventilated driver's seat, wireless phone charging and a rear centre armrest — features reserved for Luxury.

Powertrain or performance details

Premium uses the same drivetrain as the Luxury grade: a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 125kW at 5,500rpm and 270Nm across a 1,400-4,500rpm band, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.6L/100km, with urban and extra-urban figures of 8.5L/100km and 5.4L/100km respectively. Suspension is a MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear setup on both grades.

Practical usability features

Rear luggage space comes in at 341 litres with the seats up, expanding to 1,271 litres with them folded — identical to the Luxury grade. Premium sticks with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors rather than the Luxury's front sensors and 360-degree camera system. Standard safety equipment still runs deep, though: dual front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane departure warning are all fitted regardless of trim.

Market positioning

GAC is pitching the Premium as the more attainable route into its EMZOOM range, backing it with a seven-year unlimited-kilometre warranty that the brand highlights as a key differentiator.
