2026 GAC Motor AION UT Luxury

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Compact electric hatch with a 430 km WLTP range from a 60 kWh battery.

  • Available in Premium and Luxury trims, starting at $31,990.

  • Interior space and safety tech aimed at everyday urban usability.

AION UT Arrives as GAC’s New Urban Electric Hatch

The 2026 GAC AION UT enters the market as a compact electric hatchback designed with city driving firmly in mind. Small footprint. Straightforward design. Practical range.

The UT is the fourth model in GAC's expanding Australian lineup, indicating the company's intention to compete in the market for reasonably priced EVs. Orders are already open, with the Premium variant starting at $31,990, while the higher-spec Luxury trim begins at $35,990.

Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from the second quarter of 2026.

Compact Design With Urban-Friendly Proportions

Viewed in the official launch images, the AION UT keeps things clean and restrained. No unnecessary design theatrics.

The shape is recognizably that of a modern compact hatchback. Short overhangs, upright glasshouse, and a roofline that prioritizes passenger headroom rather than dramatic styling.

The front end adopts familiar EV cues. A simplified grille area, slim lighting elements, and smooth body surfaces that emphasize efficiency and modernity.

It’s a pragmatic look. Not aggressive, not exaggerated. Simply a small electric car designed to fit comfortably into dense city streets.

Cabin Layout Focused on Space and Everyday Comfort

Inside, the AION UT aims to make the most of its compact footprint.

GAC highlights the vehicle’s impressive interior space, an important factor in the small-EV segment where packaging efficiency matters as much as outright technology.

The range consists of two trims.

The Premium model covers the essentials, while the Luxury variant adds extra convenience features including a powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade, wireless phone charging and a ventilated driver’s seat.

Those upgrades move the UT slightly upmarket without losing the affordability that defines the model’s positioning.

60 kWh Battery and Competitive Electric Range

Power comes from a 60 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed 430 km driving range under WLTP testing.

For a compact hatchback, that number places the UT comfortably within the expectations of the segment.

Battery durability is supported by GAC’s Magazine Battery 2.0, which carries an eight-year / 200,000 km warranty.

The vehicle itself is covered by an eight-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, alongside five years of roadside assistance when serviced through the brand’s dealer network.

Positioning in the Expanding Compact EV Market

The small electric hatch segment is growing quickly. Buyers want the efficiency of electric mobility without the size or cost of larger SUVs. That is precisely where the AION UT fits.

Compact enough for city life, reasonably priced, and equipped with the range expected from a modern EV.
