2026 Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon
By Lorenzo Bianchi August 15, 2025
Exposed Carbon Fiber: Entire body finished without paint, dropping 13 pounds and showing off the weave in full daylight.
Race-Bred Power: Keeps the 815-hp supercharged 5.2L V8 with a carbon driveshaft and rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle.
Focused Cabin: Black leather and microfiber with Hyper Lime stitching, plus unique reflective seat accents.
A Body That Doesn’t Hide
The first thing you notice is the absence of color — not as an omission, but a statement. The Liquid Carbon’s entire skin is left unpainted, the weave running uninterrupted from nose to tail. It’s not just a styling exercise. Ford says this trim sheds about 13 pounds over a painted GTD with the Performance Package.
The surface isn’t uniform either; the light catches subtle differences in the weave across panels, a reminder that this is real composite material, not a wrap. Even the Brembo calipers go black, blending into gloss-black GTD badging. The look is cleaner, more focused — the sort of visual that might draw you in for a closer look at a track paddock.
Power Left Untouched, for Good Reason
Ford hasn’t altered what’s under the bodywork. And why would they? The 5.2-liter supercharged V8 still produces 815 horsepower, channeling it through a carbon-fiber driveshaft into an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle mounted at the rear. This layout gives the GTD its balanced weight distribution, and the Liquid Carbon variant sticks to that winning formula.
If the exterior strips things back, the mechanical package keeps its muscle. This is a race-inspired car first and foremost — a street-legal extension of Ford’s GT3 program.
A Cabin with Purpose
Open the door and the interior continues the theme. There’s black leather, plenty of Dinamica microfiber, and sharp Hyper Lime stitching tracing the lines of the seats, door panels, steering wheel, and center console.
The seat centers carry a woven reflective pattern that fades toward the bolsters. It’s a small touch, but one that catches your eye and reinforces the link to motorsport gear. The cabin feels tight, ready for work, but still comfortable enough for the drive to the circuit.
From Laguna Seca to the Order Books
Ford chose Laguna Seca Raceway to unveil this version, a fitting backdrop for a car with so much track DNA. The GTD’s silhouette is familiar, but the raw carbon body and subtle weight loss make this one stand apart in the lineup. It’s the kind of limited-run spec that collectors and serious drivers will watch closely.
Pricing and Exclusivity
Official pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but given the standard GTD’s ballpark — well into the $300,000 range — expect the Liquid Carbon to sit comfortably within the same territory, especially with the Performance Package baked in.
