Engineered Where It Matters Most

Ford has revealed the Mustang Dark Horse SC as its most track-capable Dark Horse to date, shaped by engineers whose development environment is the racing circuit rather than the road

Tested at Sebring and Virginia International Raceway alongside the Mustang GTD supercar and GT3 race car, the Dark Horse SC was developed through direct data sharing between programs.

This approach influenced nearly every system. Aerodynamics, braking, suspension, and even decklid geometry were refined through on-track comparison, rather than simulation alone. The result is a Mustang that prioritises consistency, repeatability, and control under sustained load.

Powertrain and Weight Strategy

At its core sits a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the engine delivers the expected soundtrack, the defining story is mass reduction and response rather than headline output figures.

In Track Pack form, the Dark Horse SC sheds approximately 150 pounds through the use of carbon-fiber wheels and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. Standard steel suspension components are replaced with forged links, and a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace is added to sharpen steering feel while reducing unsprung mass

Aerodynamics Developed on Track

Aerodynamics play a central role. A new aluminium hood features a large vent designed to improve cooling and manage front-end airflow. With the hood vent tray removed, downforce increases to 2.5 times that of the standard Dark Horse hood vent.

At the rear, a ducktail-shaped decklid was engineered to improve wing efficiency by 10 percent without increasing wing size or angle of attack. That solution proved effective enough to be adopted by the Mustang GTD program. In Track Pack specification, the carbon-fiber rear wing contributes to a quoted 620 pounds of rear downforce at 180 mph

Chassis Systems and Driver Control

Next-generation MagneRide dampers with revised spring rates and knuckles form part of a fully integrated hardware and software package. Variable Traction Control offers five distinct levels, supplemented by the option to fully deactivate electronic stability control, allowing drivers to tailor assistance to conditions and experience.

Braking performance is handled by the carbon-ceramic Brembo system shared with GTD development work, paired with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres on Track Pack cars.

Interior and Positioning

Inside, the Dark Horse SC adopts the GTD’s flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel with a 12 o’clock stripe and integrated performance controls. Alcantara and carbon-fiber accents reinforce the car’s purpose, while optional Recaro leather and Dinamica sport seats are available with the Track Pack, replacing the rear seats with a storage shelf.

Within the Mustang hierarchy, the Dark Horse SC occupies a precise position. It sits above the Dark Horse Performance Package yet below the Mustang GTD, bridging road-legal usability and uncompromised circuit intent. It is a product shaped less by marketing targets and more by lap time logic.
