2026 Ford Explorer Collection

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Limited Explorer Collection with sport-inspired design and materials.

  • New LFP battery boosts range to 444 km for standard models.

  • Updated SYNC Move system and Pro Power Onboard enhance usability.

Sport inspired styling reshapes the Explorer’s identity

The 2026 Ford Explorer Collection builds on the standard electric Explorer, but shifts its visual tone toward something more expressive. The changes are subtle in form, yet clear in intent.

Finished in exclusive Cactus Grey, the Collection introduces a color not offered elsewhere in the lineup. It’s paired with a black roof, dark skid plates and new graphics along the doors and rear pillars. The effect is slightly more athletic than rugged.

New 20-inch alloy wheels in satin black help anchor the SUV visually. The Explorer’s shape itself remains unchanged. Clean surfaces, upright stance, and a front end that leans more toward modern EV simplicity than traditional SUV aggression. The Collection doesn’t alter that, it just adds contrast and detail.

Proportions balance everyday usability with SUV stance

The Explorer continues to follow a familiar layout. Tall body, relatively long wheelbase, and a roofline that stays practical rather than dramatic.

There’s a sense of restraint in the way it sits. Not overly bulky, not overly sleek either. It aims for balance. Enough presence for an SUV, but still manageable in urban environments.

The Collection variant doesn’t push those proportions further. Instead, it relies on visual cues like color, wheels and trim to shift perception rather than altering the structure itself.

Interior materials reflect an active lifestyle theme

Inside, the Explorer Collection introduces a more distinctive palette. The base remains Black Onyx, but it’s broken up with orange accents across the seats, seatbelts and soundbar.

There’s also a speckled pattern across the dashboard and centre console, giving the cabin a slightly more textured look. The seats use a 2D knit insert, inspired by performance clothing. It’s a small detail, but it changes how the interior feels.

The SYNC Move system remains central. A 14.6-inch movable display dominates the dashboard, now running updated software with clearer layouts and improved app organisation. It feels closer to a handheld device in how it operates.

Updated battery and motor improve range and response

Underneath, the changes are more significant. The Explorer Standard Range now uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, increasing driving range to up to 444 km (WLTP).

The electric motor has also been revised, now producing 140 kW and 350 Nm. That’s enough to move the SUV from 0–100 km/h in around 8.0 seconds, keeping performance in line with expectations for the segment.

The improvements are incremental. More range, slightly better response. The kind of changes that matter over time rather than in a single drive.

Practical technology expands everyday usability

The Explorer’s updates extend beyond performance. Pro Power Onboard allows the vehicle to supply up to 2.3 kW of external power, turning it into a mobile energy source for tools, devices or outdoor equipment.

Furthermore, there are now more driver assistance systems. Features like Reversing Assist, Trained Park Assist, and updated adaptive cruise control systems aim to reduce effort in everyday driving situations.

Additional features like load management tools and storage options are added with a Travel Pack option. It is evident that the emphasis is on how the car fits into everyday routines rather than just driving.

Positioned within the growing electric SUV segment

The Explorer Collection enters a segment that continues to grow rapidly. Electric SUVs now dominate much of the market, particularly in Europe.

Ford’s approach here is straightforward. Keep the Explorer’s core identity intact, then layer on additional character and improved usability. The Collection model does exactly that.

It doesn’t attempt to stand apart through radical change. Instead, it refines what’s already there, adding a slightly more expressive edge to a familiar electric SUV formula.
