2026 Fang Cheng Bao Formula S GT

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First shooting brake model from Fang Cheng Bao.

  • Uses BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.

  • Scheduled to launch in the third quarter with multiple range options.

Not another SUV

Fang Cheng Bao has built its reputation around chunky, adventure-focused vehicles, which makes the new Formula S GT feel like a sharp left turn.

Fresh official images reveal a low-slung shooting brake that sits much closer to the ground than anything else currently wearing the badge. Instead of squared-off bodywork and off-road hardware, the focus here is clearly on proportions. Long wheelbase. Short overhangs. A roofline that stretches cleanly into the rear hatch.

It's a very different look for the brand.

The proportions do most of the talking

What stands out first is the shape rather than any individual design detail.

The Formula S GT measures five metres long and two metres wide, with a wheelbase stretching to three metres. Those are substantial numbers, but the car doesn't appear bulky in the official photographs. The fastback profile and low roof help disguise its footprint.

The front end is relatively clean, avoiding the oversized styling elements often found on modern EVs. A large lower intake dominates the bumper, while subtle creases running across the hood add some visual tension.

There is one feature that's impossible to miss. Sitting on top of the roof is a lidar unit, immediately signalling that advanced driver-assistance technology is part of the package.

Rear design borrows from performance cars

The rear treatment feels more distinctive than the front.

Blacked-out taillights form a pair of geometric diamond-shaped elements, while a ducktail spoiler rises from the tailgate. Neither detail is particularly dramatic on its own, but together they give the Formula S GT a sportier appearance than many electric wagons currently entering the market.

Semi-hidden door handles and relatively uncluttered body sides help keep the profile clean.

Electric hardware underneath

Fang Cheng Bao has confirmed that the Formula S GT will use a fully electric powertrain built around BYD's second-generation Blade Battery.

The company also mentions flash charging technology and multiple driving-range versions, though battery capacities and official range figures have yet to be released. Those details remain [Unverified].

Performance figures have not been disclosed either, although Fang Cheng Bao says the vehicle will introduce new developments in suspension control and chassis tuning.

Technology appears to be a major focus

The lidar hardware works alongside BYD's "God's Eye" driver-assistance system, which will continue to be used in the Formula S GT.

Beyond that, the company is hinting at upgrades to the cabin ecosystem and software experience, though specifics remain limited for now.

What's already clear is that Fang Cheng Bao isn't treating the Formula S GT as another derivative EV. The shooting brake body style alone makes it one of the more unusual launches expected from BYD's expanding portfolio this year, and it may prove to be one of the brand's most visually distinctive models to date.
