Strong numbers: Up to 440 kW, 0–100 km/h in under four seconds, 550 km range (RWD) and 240 kW DC fast charging.
Smart practicality: Retractable glass load bay, V2L power, and Camping Mode with room for a mattress.
Accessible pricing: Starts at A$64,900 for RWD, rising to A$73,900 for AWD, with capped-price servicing and a long warranty.
A Different Take on the Electric SUV
The Deepal E07—sold in China as the Changan Nevo E07—takes a slightly unconventional approach. It isn’t a pickup in the traditional sense, nor is it a straight-laced SUV. Instead, it threads the two together. With its 5,045 mm length, 1,996 mm width, and 3,120 mm wheelbase, it lands squarely in the mid-to-large crossover segment, but its load bay gives it the versatility of a ute.
Brought to Australia in late 2025 by Inchcape, the E07 is pitched as an alternative to familiar electric names like Tesla’s Model Y or BYD’s Sealion, but with added practicality baked into the design.
Battery, Range, and Power
Deepal fits the E07 with an 89.98 kWh NMC battery. Buyers get the choice of:
RWD: One rear motor making 252 kW and 365 Nm. Good for 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and 550 km of range (WLTP).
AWD: Twin motors delivering 440 kW and 645 Nm combined. This cuts 0–100 km/h to just under four seconds and still returns ~510 km of range.
Charging matches expectations: up to 240 kW DC fast charging allows a 30–80% top-up in 15 minutes, while home charging is handled at 7 kW AC. There’s also 6.6 kW V2L capability for running appliances or powering a campsite.
A Clever Load Bay
Where the E07 steps outside convention is its retractable glass load bay. Slide the glass forward, drop the tailgate, and the boot expands from 524 litres into a usable cargo bed measuring 1,865 mm long by 1,100 mm wide with the rear seats folded.
Payload is 610 kg, with a 300 kg dynamic limit for the bay. That’s enough for gear, tools, or even a mattress. In “Camping Mode,” the E07 essentially turns into a mobile bedroom, backed up by outlets to run lights or small appliances.
It isn’t a ute replacement, but it’s a smart bridge between family SUV and lifestyle vehicle.
Inside the Cabin
The interior doesn’t shy away from modern tech. A 15.4-inch touchscreen dominates the dash, and it can tilt up to 15 degrees for easier driver or passenger reach. Power comes from a Qualcomm 8155 chip, so menus load quickly, though reviewers note the system takes some learning.
Up front, the seats adjust 14 ways and come with heating, cooling, massage, and extendable leg rests. In AWD models, the rear seats can also be heated and ventilated. Noise insulation is solid, helped by Michelin EV tyres and the vehicle’s weight.
Driving Impressions
On the road, the E07 leans into comfort. Air suspension, dubbed Magic Carpet ride, smooths out uneven surfaces but brings some body roll and float over longer bumps. Steering is light and not particularly communicative, though grip is strong.
The AWD model launches hard, but the power delivery is linear rather than dramatic. It feels secure more than playful. Drive modes allow deep customization, though the system may feel overcomplicated compared to more straightforward rivals.
Servicing and Warranty
The E07 comes with a seven-year / 160,000 km warranty, and the battery gets eight years / 240,000 km coverage. Servicing is capped:
RWD: ~A$2,950 over seven years.
AWD: ~A$3,140 over seven years.
Intervals are annual, keeping costs competitive for the segment.
With pricing set between A$64,900 (RWD) and A$73,900 (AWD) before on-road costs, the E07 sits below many imported EV SUVs, while offering utility features none of them do. It’s unlikely to appeal to traditional ute buyers, but as a family EV that can also haul gear and double as a camper, it carves a distinct niche.
