2026 Citroen 2 CV Concept

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2026 Citroen 2 CV Concept revisits the original 1948 model with round headlights, a curved roof, upright windscreen and a compact 3.76 meter body.

  • Its cabin features yellow tartan seats, a single spoke steering wheel, an 8 inch touchscreen, removable storage and a retractable fabric sunroof.

  • Citroen is developing a European built electric car for introduction by 2028, aiming for a starting price of around €15,000 and a weight close to one tonne.

Citroen Brings the 2 CV Back to Paris

The 2026 Citroen 2 CV Concept has arrived at the Paris Motor Show, bringing back a shape that has remained familiar for nearly eight decades. The original appeared in 1948, built around an uncomplicated idea: affordable transport that could handle everyday life without unnecessary complexity.

That thinking carries over to the new concept, although the mechanical approach is now electric.

Rather than producing a direct copy of the original, Citroen has kept its recognizable proportions while giving the body a cleaner, more contemporary appearance. It also previews a small electric model expected to join the range by 2028.

Round Headlights and a Shorter 3.76 Meter Body

The new 2 CV measures 3.76 meters long, making it shorter than the original. Its upright windscreen, curved roof and rounded wheel arches preserve much of the older car's character.

At the front, circular headlights stand slightly apart from the bodywork. The bonnet has a smoother surface, with sculpted creases inspired by the early TPV prototype.

The Infra Red paint combines an orange base with yellow and red highlights. Along the sides, the car wears 18 inch steel wheels with small yellow clips, while Michelin tyres carry Heritage markings.

The rear remains simple, with a black tailgate extending down toward the bumper and LED lights positioned on either side.

A Colourful Cabin Without a Conventional Dashboard

Inside, Citroen has moved away from the usual dashboard arrangement. A cylindrical structure runs across the cabin, supporting a single spoke steering wheel, a control lever and a Smart Vision display.

There is also an 8 inch square touchscreen, but the rest of the interior is deliberately uncomplicated.

Wide seats use Citroen Advanced Comfort technology and yellow tartan upholstery. A removable basket replaces the centre console, while fabric straps serve as door handles.

The front seat can be pulled outward when the car is parked, and a detachable Radioën speaker can be used outside the vehicle. Above, a fabric sunroof opens up the cabin.

Electric Power With Weight and Simplicity in Focus

Citroen has not released battery capacity, motor output or driving range figures for the concept.

Instead, the engineering brief concentrates on keeping weight close to one tonne. That should allow the use of a smaller battery suited to everyday journeys [Inference].

Practical details matter too. The bumpers are separate from the bodywork so they can be replaced individually, while Michelin's digital tyre technology is designed to monitor tyre condition continuously.

A €15,000 Electric Car Planned by 2028

The concept points toward a European built electric model positioned between the Ami and C3.

Citroen is targeting a starting price of approximately €15,000, with the future car intended to meet upcoming European E-Car regulations.

A production version has not yet been detailed. For now, the 2 CV Concept shows how Citroen plans to revisit its familiar small car formula, with lower weight, straightforward construction and affordable electric motoring taking priority.
