2026 BYD Shark UK Version
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 9, 2026
BYD's first European pickup combines plug-in hybrid efficiency with genuine utility.
Super Hybrid DMO system delivers 436 PS, AWD and up to 55.9 miles of EV range.
Standard equipment includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen, V2L capability and advanced safety features.
A Different Kind of Pickup
The 2026 BYD Shark UK Version marks an important step for the brand. It's BYD's first pickup truck for Europe, but instead of following the familiar diesel formula, it arrives with plug-in hybrid technology at its core.
That immediately makes it stand out. The Shark is aimed at buyers who still need a hardworking pickup but would also like to complete shorter trips on electric power alone. Whether it's a weekday commute or a drive between job sites, many journeys can be completed without using any petrol at all.
Rugged Styling with a Modern Twist
There's no mistaking the Shark for anything else. Its design takes inspiration from the ocean predator that gives it its name, particularly at the front where slim headlights stretch across the nose and frame a broad grille that gives the pickup a confident expression.
From the side, the long roofline, muscular wheel arches and chunky body cladding create the kind of presence buyers expect from a modern pickup. Standard 18-inch wheels wrapped in substantial tyres reinforce that impression, while the full-width rear light bar adds a cleaner, more contemporary finish at the back.
Its 3,260 mm wheelbase and relatively short overhangs aren't just styling features either. They contribute to useful approach and departure angles for tackling rougher terrain.
More Comfortable Than Many Pickups
Step inside and the cabin feels closer to a large SUV than a traditional work truck.
The front seats are both heated and ventilated, while large physical controls remain easy to operate, even with gloves on. Ahead of the driver sits a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, complemented by a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen—the largest fitted to any pickup currently on sale.
Passengers in the rear haven't been forgotten either. Thanks to the flat floor and generous legroom, the second row offers noticeably more space than many conventional pickups, making longer journeys easier for the whole family.
Hybrid Power Without Losing Capability
The biggest talking point is BYD's Super Hybrid DMO powertrain.
A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works alongside two electric motors to produce a combined 436 PS and 650 Nm of torque. That gives the Shark a surprisingly quick 0-62 mph time of just 5.7 seconds while still delivering an official electric driving range of up to 55.9 miles. With a full battery and a full fuel tank, the total driving range reaches 419 miles.
The pickup also features intelligent all-wheel drive, double-wishbone suspension, a 2,500 kg towing capacity and a 1,200-litre load bed, ensuring the electrified drivetrain doesn't come at the expense of everyday usability.
Packed With Practical Features
BYD has chosen to offer the Shark in a single, generously equipped trim level.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system, a 360-degree camera and a full suite of driver assistance systems all come as standard. One particularly useful addition is the 6.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load system, which allows owners to power tools, appliances and outdoor equipment directly from the vehicle using two integrated power sockets.
With UK prices starting from £47,290 including VAT, the 2026 BYD Shark UK Version brings a fresh alternative to buyers who want pickup capability without relying solely on diesel power.
