2026 BYD Seal EV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Boot capacity increased to 485 litres plus 72-litre front storage.

  • Up to 523bhp AWD with 0–62mph in 3.8 seconds.

  • 82.5kWh Blade Battery delivering up to 354 miles WLTP.

Subtle Exterior Revisions and New Colour Options

The 2026 BYD Seal EV arrives with a measured set of updates rather than a redesign. The core OCEAN design language remains intact, defined by its low bonnet, sweeping roofline and wide rear stance. What changes are the details.

A revised 19-inch wheel design sharpens the car’s posture, giving the saloon a slightly more assertive visual footprint. Three new exterior colours — Ruby Red, Obsidian Black and Lavender Grey — expand personalisation alongside Polar White, Indigo Grey and Atlantis Grey. At the rear, the BYD logo now sits prominently above the full-width LED light bar, with the SEAL badge repositioned to the lower right of the boot lid.

The changes are restrained. The Seal’s 4.8-metre silhouette remains sleek and cohesive, with short overhangs and a planted stance that continues to signal its performance intent.

Increased Practicality Within the Same Footprint

Where the 2026 BYD Seal EV makes its most tangible gains is in practicality. The rear boot grows from 400 litres to 485 litres, accessed via a standard powered tailgate. Tethering hooks have been added to secure loose cargo, a small but welcome addition.

Under the bonnet, front storage capacity increases by 19 litres, now offering 72 litres. It is enough to store charging cables or a compact carry-on case. For a performance-oriented electric saloon, the added versatility broadens its appeal without altering the underlying architecture.

Inside, the cabin adopts a cleaner aesthetic. Nappa leather upholstery remains standard, but the headrests lose the previously stitched BYD logo, presenting a more understated finish. The centre armrest also omits the NFC logo, though the functionality remains.

Enhanced Technology and Safety Suite

Technology has been strengthened for 2026. A new Driver Monitoring System joins the standard assistance package, designed to track driver attention and comply with evolving safety standards. A Bluetooth™ key is also introduced, enabling smartphone-based keyless entry.

The Design trim continues with a high level of specification, including LED headlights with High Beam Assistant, a panoramic glass roof, Dynaudio® 12-speaker sound system, dual 15-watt wireless charging trays, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats and a fixed 15.6-inch high-definition touchscreen. The Excellence adds a head-up display.

The technology presentation remains one of the Seal’s strengths. It feels comprehensive rather than layered with options.

Performance and Blade Battery Range

The 2026 BYD Seal EV retains its two distinct powertrain configurations. The Design uses a single rear motor producing 308bhp and 360Nm, reaching 0–62mph in 5.9 seconds. The Excellence employs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 523bhp and 670Nm, cutting the 0–62mph sprint to 3.8 seconds. Both are electronically limited to 112mph.

An 82.5kWh Blade Battery with lithium iron phosphate chemistry underpins both versions. WLTP range stands at 354 miles for the Design and 323 miles for the Excellence. DC rapid charging peaks at 150kW, with a 10–80% recharge taking 37 minutes.

Pricing and Market Position

Pricing remains unchanged. The Design starts at £45,730, with the Excellence at £48,730. Warranty coverage extends to six years or 93,750 miles, with battery cover up to eight years or 155,350 miles.

In a competitive electric saloon segment, the 2026 BYD Seal EV strengthens its position through incremental refinement. It offers more space, more personalisation and a broadened safety suite, without altering its core formula of strong range and direct performance.
