2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The rear-drive Atto 3 EVO Premium uses a 74.88kWh Blade Battery producing 230kW/380Nm, reaching 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds with 510km of WLTP range.

  • The front-drive Dynamic keeps a 60.48kWh battery, 150kW/310Nm output and 420km of range, priced from $41,990 before on-road costs.

  • Pricing runs from $41,990 for the Dynamic to $46,990 for the Premium, with orders open now and deliveries starting in September.

BYD has confirmed the Australian rollout of the MY26 Atto 3 EVO, and the update goes well beyond a mid-cycle styling tweak. The mid-size EV SUV that first landed in Australian driveways back in 2022 now gets a new exterior, a fully reworked interior, and — for the first time — a rear-drive flagship variant that changes how the Atto 3 actually drives. Two grades continue as before, Dynamic and Premium, but BYD is positioning them as meaningfully different vehicles this time rather than trim-level variations on the same theme.

Sharper Lines on a Familiar Dragon Face

The Dragon Face design theme carries over, but the execution is noticeably more geometric than before. Stronger lines and angles now dominate the front bumper, with a pronounced crease running along the outer edges of the air intake, and daytime running lights that stretch fully across the fascia for more road presence. Around back, the trademark Chinese-knot LED tail lights now run the full width of the vehicle, and the rooftop spoiler picks up a new flared design at each end, with its integrated stop light shifting from a single horizontal bar to twin vertical stripes.

Same Footprint, Cleaner Surfacing

Despite the visual overhaul, the Atto 3 EVO keeps the same external dimensions as the outgoing model: 4,455mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,615mm tall, on an unchanged 2,720mm wheelbase. The side profile gets the most visible refinement, with slimmer side skirts integrated more smoothly into the bodywork, while a swept-up duck tail and wider bottom tail light sculpting clean up the lower rear bumper.

A Cabin Built Around Openness

Inside, the biggest change is the column-mounted gear shifter, relocated from the center console to the steering column and freeing up space for what BYD describes as a more open front cabin. The driver's LCD dashboard grows from 5 to 8.8 inches, wireless phone charging jumps from 15W to 50W, and the interior gains redesigned door panels, multi-color ambient lighting and a new grey interior tone. Dynamic grade includes a six-way power driver's seat and heated/ventilated front seats standard, while Premium adds dual-zone climate control and four-way power lumbar support.

Two Very Different Powertrains

The front-drive Dynamic runs a 60.48kWh Blade Battery producing 150kW and 310Nm, good for up to 420km of WLTP range. The Premium is the bigger departure: it drops front-wheel drive entirely in favor of a rear-drive layout, paired with BYD's e-Platform 3.0 architecture, a larger 74.88kWh battery, and outputs of 230kW and 380Nm. That combination delivers a 5.5-second 0-100km/h time, a 510km WLTP range, and — thanks to the 800V system — DC fast charging up to 220kW for a 25-minute 0-80% charge, versus 41 minutes on the Dynamic's 400V setup.

Added Practicality From the Layout Change

Losing the front motor on the Premium freed up a 101-liter frunk beneath the bonnet, while rear boot space grows by 56 liters to 490 liters, expanding to 1,360 liters with the second row folded.

Pricing and Availability

The Atto 3 Dynamic EV starts at $41,990 before on-road costs, with the Premium EV at $46,990. Orders are open now, with deliveries beginning in September.
