The Brabus XL 800 Cabrio enters the market as one of the most unusual interpretations of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 ever to reach production. Developed by Brabus as part of its Masterpiece line, the XL 800 trades the familiar fortress-like roof of the G-Class for a fully engineered open-top body that still meets rollover certification and structural requirements. It is a cabriolet conceived for terrain where most convertibles would never be seen.

A Convertible Body Designed for Structural Demands

Engineers created more than 500 new components to transform the standard G 63 into a four-door cabriolet. High-strength steel reinforcement and a new soft-top architecture allow the structure to match the torsional rigidity of the base vehicle

The roof opens or closes in 20 seconds, supported by a carbon-fiber front roof bow that maintains its shape at speed. At the rear, the exposed-structure “C-BOW” steel roll bar provides both safety and design identity.

The XL 800 is not merely a trimmed-back boulevard cruiser. It underwent shaker testing with loads up to 7g—equivalent to more than 100,000 km of simulated use—and passed formal rollover certification requirements before approval for small-series production.

Exterior Proportions Shaped for Off-Road Authority

While the standard Brabus 800 Cabrio focuses on street performance, the XL version is built around portal axles and an entirely re-engineered chassis. The ride height climbs to an enormous 47.9 cm, creating a stance unlike any G-Class variant on the market

WIDESTAR bodywork widens the vehicle to 210 cm, with exposed-structure carbon extensions forming the outer edge of the arches. Pairing with these elements are forged Monoblock Z-HD wheels—9.5Jx22 units designed specifically for the eight-lug bolt pattern of the portal axle system. Each wheel carries 325/55 R22 all-terrain tires.

The XL’s body is finished in “Pale Brown,” contrasted by the bright red portal axle chassis visible beneath. The visual message is clear: this is a convertible engineered for heavy-duty use rather than gentle coastal drives.

800 HP and a Chassis Designed for Rough Terrain

Power comes from the Brabus-tuned 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 588 kW (800 hp) and 1,000 Nm of torque, paired with a nine-speed SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission. Although the XL carries all-terrain tires and a more complex driveline, it still reaches 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds before hitting an electronically limited 210 km/h top speed

Adjustable Ride Control coilovers developed with KW allow in-cabin suspension tuning. The geometry of the portal axles significantly improves approach, departure, and breakover angles, giving the XL 800 capabilities beyond even modified off-road G-Class models.

Masterpiece Interior Tailored for the Open Cabin

Inside, Brabus upholsters the XL 800 in red leather with Shell-design quilting across seats, door cards, and floor sections. Carbon elements extend from the dash to the steering wheel and pedals. Seat centers are perforated to support climate-controlled seating functions, and multiple Double-B logos mark the handcrafted detailing

As with all Brabus Masterpiece builds, each unit is tailorable to the buyer’s taste, though the example shown carries a price of €887,600 (export, excluding VAT).
