2026 BMW M850i Edition M Heritage G16

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Only 500 will be built, with colors and details inspired by the first-generation 8-Series.

  • Keeps the standard M850i’s 523-hp twin-turbo V8, AWD, and sub-4-second 0–60 mph performance.

  • Fully equipped from the factory, with luxury, performance, and tech in one package.

A Familiar Shape, Dressed for the Occasion

BMW isn’t calling this a farewell, but the 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage has that air about it. The Gran Coupe body is unchanged in its proportions — long nose, low roof, muscular haunches — but the detailing is pure nostalgia. Five colors pulled from the early E31 era make up the palette: Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green, and Daytona Violet. On each, a carbon-fiber roof with discreet M stripes adds a modern counterpoint, sitting over 20-inch Orbit Grey alloys that look like they’ve been chosen with a curator’s eye.

Shadowline trim and dark grille accents sharpen the edges without shouting. It’s an understated approach, letting the colors and stance do most of the talking.

Power Where It Counts

BMW left the mechanicals alone — wisely. Under the hood sits the familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, still good for 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It’s tied to an eight-speed automatic and the xDrive all-wheel drive system, delivering a 0–60 mph time in the 3.9-second bracket (or quicker if you believe independent testers). Top speed remains electronically capped at 155 mph.

There’s a sense of confidence here — no need to chase higher numbers when the formula already works.

Inside: Equal Parts Sport and Luxury

Open the door and the BMW M850i Edition Heritage makes its case. Full Black Merino leather covers the seats, contrasted with Alcantara inserts and tri-color M stitching. The console is finished in matte carbon-fiber, the gear selector in glass. Each car carries “M850i Edition M Heritage” and its individual build number etched inside, a quiet reminder that you’re in rare company.

Equipment-wise, nothing’s missing — the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond sound system, Driving Assistance Professional suite, and every major option are standard. BMW has essentially pre-configured the ideal M850i.

At roughly $130,400 including destination, the BMW M850i Edition M Heritage sits about $21,000 above the regular M850i. That puts it in the same ballpark as the Porsche Panamera GTS or certain AMG GT 4-Door models, but with a story to tell that stretches back to 1989.
