2026 Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 15, 2026
The 5300 Aperta Lusso transforms Giorgetto Giugiaro's unrealised 1960s open top concept into a limited production model.
A naturally aspirated 5.3 litre front mid mounted V8 delivers more than 400 hp through a five speed manual gearbox.
Production is limited to just 10 individually commissioned cars, each tailored to its owner's specification.
The 2026 Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso isn't a modern reinterpretation of a classic. It is the completion of an idea that never reached production more than six decades ago. The project traces its roots to an open top design conceived by Giorgetto Giugiaro for the original Bizzarrini 5300 GT, a proposal that remained hidden in company archives until now.
Rather than chasing nostalgia, Bizzarrini has chosen to preserve the original shape while discreetly integrating today's engineering and convenience features. The company describes the result as a "Nuova Classica," combining period styling with modern construction and usability.
A familiar silhouette with a new purpose
The proportions stay remarkably faithful to the original concept. A structural arch replaces a conventional folding roof, while two removable carbon fibre roof panels can be lifted out and stored in the luggage compartment by a single person. The clean profile remains uninterrupted, helping the car retain the elegance that made the original sketches so memorable.
Underneath the bodywork, though, the engineering is thoroughly modern. The Aperta Lusso uses a single piece carbon fibre composite body reinforced with aerospace grade steel through the transmission tunnel. According to Bizzarrini, the structure exceeds the torsional rigidity of the original coupe despite losing its fixed roof.
Crafted cabin with discreet technology
Inside, the focus shifts from outright performance to craftsmanship. Leather upholstery is paired with Zegna fabric, while the dashboard is carved from a single piece of European maple. Even the gear knob receives individual attention, finished in Italian tortoiseshell with gold detailing inspired by the first owner's personal preferences.
Modern equipment is carefully hidden rather than celebrated. Air conditioning, MagSafe charging, premium weather sealing, concealed audio with Apple CarPlay compatibility and frameless windows are integrated without changing the period appearance of the cabin. The result is a classic driving environment that offers the convenience expected from a contemporary grand tourer.
Classic V8 character remains intact
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.3 litre front mid mounted V8 producing more than 400 horsepower. It sends drive to the rear wheels through a Tremec five speed manual transmission and limited slip differential, giving the Aperta Lusso a claimed top speed of over 175 mph. Buyers can also specify a six speed manual and tailored final drive ratios to suit their preferred driving style.
Suspension follows Giotto Bizzarrini's original Le Mans inspired layout with double wishbones, adjustable Koni dampers and magnesium Campagnolo centre lock wheels. Rack and pinion steering, upgraded brakes and modern tyres improve everyday drivability without changing the car's analogue character.
Built for collectors, not volume
Only ten examples of the 2026 Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso will be produced initially, each commissioned and hand built to individual specifications. That exclusivity places it firmly in the world of bespoke collector cars, offering a rare opportunity to own a design that spent more than sixty years waiting to leave the drawing board.
