2026 Aurus Senat 900

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Aurus launches the Senat 900 as a new luxury sedan for the Russian market.

  • Powered by a 326-hp turbocharged V6 paired with AWD and air suspension.

  • Available in both five-seat and four-seat VIP configurations.

Aurus Wants to Be More Than a State Car Builder

For years, Aurus was known for one thing.

The company built the Senat limousine used by Vladimir Putin, a vehicle that became the public face of Russia's attempt to establish a domestic luxury brand. Outside that role, however, Aurus remained a fairly niche name.

The new Senat 900 suggests the company is trying to change that.

Production has already started in St. Petersburg, and unlike the stretched presidential limousine that made the brand famous, this model is aimed at regular customers looking for a large luxury sedan. At least, regular customers with deep pockets. Pricing starts at around 12 million rubles in Russia.

The Front End Tries to Establish Its Own Identity

Seen head-on, the Senat 900 does a reasonable job of looking like an Aurus.

The grille is larger and more upright than before, borrowing cues from the company's flagship models. New headlights and a revised bumper help distinguish the sedan from the vehicle it is based on.

Walk around it, though, and the similarities become harder to ignore.

The profile remains familiar, with a long wheelbase, formal roofline, and proportions typical of a modern executive sedan. The rear end follows the same approach, carrying a full-width light bar and broad shoulders that emphasize width rather than aggression.

At just over five meters long, the Senat 900 is every bit the full-size luxury car its dimensions suggest.

Comfort Takes Priority Inside

Open the door and the focus becomes obvious.

This is a car designed around comfort first. Buyers can choose between a traditional five-seat layout or a four-seat VIP configuration aimed at chauffeur-driven use. Nappa leather, wood trim, heated and ventilated seating, massage functions, and a collection of driver-assistance features are all part of the package.

Nothing appears especially radical, and that may actually work in its favor.

Instead of chasing minimalist trends or filling the cabin with experimental features, the Senat 900 leans into familiar luxury-sedan expectations. Large seats, premium materials, and plenty of rear passenger space still matter in this segment.

A Familiar Formula Under the Skin

Power comes from a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 326 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Aurus quotes a 0-100 km/h time of 6.5 seconds, respectable rather than headline-grabbing for a sedan of this size.

More relevant for most buyers will be the standard air suspension.

Large luxury sedans live or die by ride quality, and the inclusion of air suspension suggests comfort remains the priority over outright performance.

Finding Its Place in a Changing Market

The timing of the Senat 900 is difficult to ignore.

Russia's automotive landscape looks very different from what it did a few years ago. Many familiar Western brands have departed, leaving room for domestic manufacturers and Chinese brands to expand their presence.

The Senat 900 arrives in the middle of that shift. It gives Aurus a chance to move beyond ceremonial limousines and government fleets, entering a segment where brand recognition alone won't guarantee success.

Whether buyers embrace it remains to be seen. What is clear is that Aurus no longer wants to be known solely as the company that builds the presidential car.
