2025 WEY Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The WEY Tank 500 Hi4‑T PHEV delivers 300 kW power output, 750 Nm torque, and an electric-only range of 120 km (NEDC).

  • This full-size SUV retains serious off-road capability—three locking diffs, low-range gearing, 3 000 kg towing capacity, 213 mm ground clearance, and 800 mm wading depth

  • Inside, it reconfigures to a five-seater layout with luxury touches—heated, ventilated, massaging rear seats, 14.6” infotainment, three-zone climate, and V2L capability.

A Logical Extension to the Tank Family

The 2025 WEY Tank 500 Hi4‑T PHEV builds on the Tank 500 roster and now brings plug-in hybrid tech into the mix. Power rises to 300 kW, boosted by a 2.0 L turbo engine and an electric motor, delivering 750 Nm—stronger numbers than the hybrid and petrol siblings. On paper, this SUV hits 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The electric-only range is spec'd at 120 km (NEDC), but in real terms, users should expect around 80–90 km—still useful for most daily needs. Combined range stretches to around 950 km.

Charging’s flexible: CCS2 DC at up to 50 kW gets you from 30–80 percent in about 24 minutes; home AC takes roughly 6.5 hours. A 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load function lets you power tools or appliances off the SUV—handy.

Rugged Capability Intact

This Hi4‑T keeps the Tank 500’s off-road essence. The same mechanical 4WD system, now enriched with plug-in power, includes triple locking diffs, torque-on-demand, low-range gearing, and a 3 000 kg towing rating. Ground clearance stands at 213 mm; approach, breakover, and departure angles are 30°, 22.5°, and 24°. Water fording depth remains a robust 800 mm.

Basically, it’s as at ease on rough tracks as the hybrid variant—now with an EV edge.

Interior and Tech Edge

Inside, the third row is gone—this PHEV runs with five seats to make room for the big 37.1 kWh battery. In exchange, rear passengers get serious pampering: heated, ventilated, even massaging outer seats, controlled via a 7” rear panel.

Front and center is a 14.6” floating infotainment screen with smartphone mirroring, and three-zone climate control. Cabin duties are handled by a 12-speaker Infinity system. Choose between black Nappa or a two-tone blue/cream interior, depending on exterior color.

Safety tech is comprehensive: seven airbags, AEB, lane-keep assist, 360° monitor. Buyers also get a 7-year/unlimited-km warranty, plus eight years on the battery.

GWM confirmed the Hi4‑T model will land in Australia in Q4 2025. The PHEV will cost more than the current hybrid Luxe and Ultra grades (which start around AU$66,490 and AU$73,990 drive-away). Final pricing will be released nearer launch.
