2025 Toyota Scion 01 Concept

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2025 Toyota Scion 01 Concept delivers over 300 hp from a turbocharged hybrid engine.

  • Developed by Toyota’s North American engineers with CALTY Design Studio.

  • Features FIA-compliant safety cage and hybrid “Silent Mode” for quiet trail driving.

Reintroducing Scion with Purpose

Toyota has revived the spirit of Scion in a way no one expected — not as a compact urban car brand, but as an off-road experiment in performance and sustainability. Revealed at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the 2025 Toyota Scion 01 Concept marks the return of the Scion nameplate as a creative test bed for advanced engineering and adventurous design.

Developed by Toyota’s North American engineering teams, the Scion 01 is a radical side-by-side all-terrain vehicle (SXS) that merges Toyota’s off-road heritage with its modern hybrid expertise. Engineers who race and trail drive on the weekends came up with the idea for the machine, which was created by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

Designed for Accuracy and Power

Its core is a four-cylinder hybrid with high output that produces more than 300 horsepower. The engine, which was modified from Toyota's truck division, combines electric power efficiency and control with raw performance. A dedicated Silent Mode allows it to run on pure EV propulsion for stealthy movement through trails — or as Toyota describes, “gliding through nature in serenity.”

The Scion 01’s chassis was built from scratch for versatility. With a wide stance, balanced track, and high suspension articulation, it’s designed for everything from high-speed dunes to rocky climbs. Toyota engineers say it was benchmarked against leading SXS models — not to compete, but to “surpass them in power, capability, and range.”

The structure itself is FIA-compliant — the first of its kind in a concept SXS — with a racing-grade safety cage that meets both SCORE and FIA standards. The driveline, brakes, and suspension components borrow heavily from proven Toyota truck platforms, ensuring durability that matches the brand’s off-road reputation.

Designed for the Wilderness

Visually, the Scion 01 looks like something built for Mars rather than Nevada. Toyota’s CALTY Design Studio gave it an assertive, functional shape — sharp surfaces, open wheel arches, and exposed suspension elements emphasizing purpose over polish. It feels mechanical, but deliberate.

Inside, the cabin follows the same philosophy: minimalist, functional, and focused. Every control has intent, and every surface serves a purpose. There’s a sense of experimentation that recalls the early Scion ethos — approachable yet engineered.
