Design and Proportions of the Vehicle
The 2025 Rivian R1T Borealis arrives as a visual update rather than a structural one, though the impact is immediate. Borealis Purple — a new, moody shade inspired by the Northern Lights — shifts the pickup’s character without altering the familiar surfacing. Early images show how the color interacts with the R1T’s tall shoulder line and upright glasshouse. The pickup’s architecture tends to break up darker tones, so the finish appears more segmented here than on the R1S, where the longer body carries color more evenly. Even so, Borealis adds depth to the chamfered fenders and the squared rear.
Rivian notes the shade joins the brand’s premium paint lineup, sitting alongside Red Canyon, Rivian Blue, and Storm Blue, with Borealis positioned at the same $3,000 surcharge.
When paired with the optional burnished bronze wheels — available in 20- and 22-inch configurations — the finish sharpens the overall stance. The contrast works especially well with the bright blue brake calipers offered across the range.
Performance and Powertrain Overview
The Borealis update does not alter performance specifications, and Rivian’s provided material makes no mention of powertrain changes. Rivian appears to have positioned the finish at customers who like higher-spec installations based on the color's availability on Tri and Quad variants. Future adoption will rely on consumer reaction since the business has not stated if Borealis will go to Dual Standard or Dual trim levels.

The Borealis release's interior details are unaltered.
Rivian instead highlights the exterior personalization and an expanded lease program. The R1T Dual Standard, for instance, carries a listed price of $72,990 and qualifies for new monthly rates under Rivian’s limited-time offer.
The model's premium standing is reflected in the substantial payment totals even with the addition of a Lease Bonus.
Positioning in the Market and Segment Context
Although color changes may seem insignificant, they are strategically important for a developing EV brand.
Rivian’s seasonal color introductions — from Miami Edition tones to this deeper, more subdued palette — help keep attention on the lineup without waiting for full model updates.
Alongside Borealis, Rivian introduces a $5,000 Lease Bonus for select 2026 R1T models delivered before December 31. Eligible trims include the Tri, Dual Standard, and Dual with Large battery and Performance Upgrade.
The restricted window is further reinforced by the company's emphasis that the offer is only available "while supplies last."
