2025 Qiyuan Q05
By Lorenzo Bianchi September 4, 2025
Combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for 215 PS and 330 Nm, driving the front wheels through an E-CVT.
Two battery choices: 60 km or 125 km pure-electric range (CLTC), with overall range up to 1,215 km.
Priced from 112,899 yuan in China, offering a modern compact SUV package with competitive features.
Compact SUV Proportions with a Modern Edge
The Qiyuan Q05 is Changan’s latest effort under its new-energy Qiyuan sub-brand, and on first impression it lands right where many buyers are shopping. At 4,539 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, it matches the dimensions of a typical compact SUV, with a 2,656 mm wheelbase that hints at decent rear passenger space.
The design language is clean and upright. A light bar stretches across the nose, framing slim LED headlamps, while the side profile remains straightforward, broken up by sharp character lines and just enough chrome around the windows to catch the sun. Around the back, the SUV keeps things tidy — the proportions look measured, without gimmicks. It doesn’t try to shock, and that’s likely intentional.
Powertrain: Balancing Efficiency and Range
Beneath the surface, the Q05 relies on a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The combined system delivers up to 215 PS (158 kW) and 330 Nm, which is modest but in line with expectations for a front-wheel-drive hybrid SUV in this size class.
Buyers can choose between two plug-in battery packs. A 9.07 kWh unit allows around 60 km of EV driving, while the larger 18.99 kWh pack extends pure-electric running to about 125 km on the CLTC cycle. Pair either with a full tank of petrol, and the total driving range stretches to an impressive 1,215 km.
An E-CVT transmission handles power delivery, prioritising smoothness and efficiency.
Inside the Cabin: Straightforward and Tech-Centric
Step inside the Q05 and the emphasis is on tech and usability. The focal point is a 12.3-inch central display supported by a digital instrument cluster. It’s a familiar setup in today’s SUV market but executed cleanly, with minimal physical controls and a tidy layout.
Material choices vary by trim — cloth upholstery on entry models, with leather offered higher up the range. Five seats come as standard, and thanks to its relatively tall roofline, the Q05 feels roomy for a compact crossover.
Options and higher trims add useful touches: heated seats, an electric tailgate, and adaptive cruise control. In China’s market, where competition is fierce, this level of equipment has become almost expected. Still, it rounds out the package neatly.
In its home market, the Qiyuan Q05 starts at 112,899 yuan, roughly €14,600 at current exchange rates. That places it on the value-oriented side of the compact plug-in hybrid market, especially given the long EV range figures.
