2025 Porsche 911 S-T

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 525 PS and revving to 9,000 rpm, the 2025 911 S/T combines purist engineering with modern performance.

  • The car weighs just 1,380 kg and uses a six-speed manual gearbox, underscoring Porsche’s dedication to driver-focused sports cars.

  • Created by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, the new 911 S/T pays homage to the 1972 Le Mans class-winning 911 2.5 S/T, including a hand-applied Light Yellow paint finish.

A legend reborn

The 911 S/T badge first appeared in 1972, when Porsche built a lightweight racing derivative of the 911 2.5 that went on to win its class at Le Mans. More than fifty years later, Porsche has revived the name with the 2025 911 S/T, a model that honors the spirit of its predecessor while incorporating modern engineering.

Its most striking feature is its finish: a hand-applied coat of Light Yellow (code 117), a shade directly carried over from the 1972 original. Applying such a pale color to numerous carbon fiber components presented unusual challenges, but Porsche’s craftspeople met them with the precision expected of Sonderwunsch creations.

Design details rooted in history

Visually, the 2025 911 S/T blends retro cues with contemporary execution. The Light Yellow bodywork is paired with lightweight forged magnesium wheels in Dark Silver, contrasting black brake calipers, and a purposeful stance. Inside, the cabin follows a blacked-out theme, with minimal distraction and a focus on driving engagement.

Unlike many heritage-inspired cars, the S/T is not merely a cosmetic exercise. Porsche’s approach here is holistic: an exclusive exterior treatment, carefully matched interior details, and uncompromised performance hardware.

Powertrain and performance

At its core, the 2025 911 S/T is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six. The engine delivers 525 PS (386 kW) and spins freely to 9,000 rpm, a figure that underscores the motor’s motorsport lineage.

This is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, deliberately chosen to maximize driver involvement rather than outright acceleration times. The car’s kerb weight of 1,380 kilograms keeps it light by modern standards, and Porsche cites combined WLTP fuel consumption of 13.8 l/100 km with CO₂ emissions at 313 g/km.

Such specifications make the S/T one of the purest 911s in the lineup, channeling decades of motorsport experience into a package designed for enthusiasts who prize control and feedback above all else.

The story behind the rebirth

The 2025 911 S/T does not exist in isolation; it is tied directly to the history of the 1972 911 2.5 S/T. That car, after winning at Le Mans, spent decades lost to obscurity, deteriorating into a near wreck before being rediscovered in California in 2008.

After a painstaking restoration involving more than 1,000 hours of manual bodywork and two and a half years of effort, the original S/T was returned to its period-correct Light Yellow finish in 2016.

Its rebirth provided the spark for Porsche Sonderwunsch to create a new 911 S/T, designed as a companion piece to the restored classic.

Sonderwunsch: bespoke craftsmanship

The Sonderwunsch program allows Porsche clients to commission unique vehicles crafted to the same standards as production models but tailored in every detail. In the case of the 911 S/T, the program went beyond individual personalization: it recreated a historic racing legend for the modern era.

The paint alone demonstrates this philosophy. Light Yellow, a shade absent from Porsche’s palette for decades, was recreated and meticulously applied by hand. The result is a finish that connects the new car directly with its 1972 inspiration while meeting contemporary quality and durability standards.
