Buyers can now choose between two electric and two hybrid Frontera variants.
Practical packaging and value-led pricing remain central to the model’s appeal.
A range upgrade that changes the conversation
The 2025 Opel Frontera REEV arrives with a clear message: electric family SUVs no longer need to be limited to short, urban routines. Following its dealer premiere in Germany earlier in the year, Opel has moved quickly to address one of the most common concerns around entry-level EVs. The Frontera Electric now gains an “Extended Range” version, adding around 100 kilometres of additional WLTP range compared with the original model.
With the new 54 kWh battery, the Frontera Electric is rated at up to 408 kilometres of locally emissions-free driving. That figure places it firmly into the realm of realistic long-distance usability, especially for families who expect one car to cover commuting, school runs, and weekend travel.
Straightforward design with a practical stance
Opel positions the Frontera as a rugged, honest SUV, and that approach carries through regardless of drivetrain. The exterior design prioritises upright proportions and clean surfaces, trading visual drama for functionality. Wide doors, a squared-off tail, and a high roofline all signal space first, style second.
That stance pays dividends inside. The Frontera’s upright sides and rear window translate into generous headroom and a sense of openness in the second row. Opel highlights the vehicle’s flexibility rather than luxury cues, reinforcing its role as a family-focused tool rather than a lifestyle statement.
Electric performance tuned for daily use
The Frontera Electric ‘Extended Range’ uses an 83 kW (113 hp) electric motor paired with the new 54 kWh battery. Compared with the 44 kWh version, energy consumption is reduced, helping unlock the longer range figure. For buyers whose usage is mainly urban, Opel continues to offer the smaller-battery version with up to 305 kilometres WLTP range, providing a lower entry point into electric ownership.
Charging behaviour remains aligned with everyday needs. At a 100 kW DC fast-charging station, the battery can be replenished from 20 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. That makes longer trips feasible without demanding extended stops.
Interior space and simple solutions
Inside, the Frontera’s priorities are clear. Load capacity reaches up to around 1,600 litres, and the rear bench splits 60:40 to accommodate mixed passenger and cargo needs. Opel also leans into small, practical touches: retaining straps, smartphone pockets in the seatbacks, and an optional wireless charger all reflect an understanding of daily use.
A notable feature across the range is Opel’s patented Intelli-Seats, offering a central ergonomic recess for improved comfort. It is a reminder that innovation here is focused on well-being rather than screens or digital theatrics.
Positioning through choice and value
The wider Frontera lineup now consists of two battery-electric variants and two hybrid options, offered in Edition and GS trims. In Germany, pricing for the new Frontera Electric ‘Extended Range’ starts at €31,190, while hybrid versions begin at €24,190, reinforcing the model’s value-led positioning.
By combining services like a home wallbox, charging support, and an eight-year battery guarantee, Opel's "Electric All In" package makes the switch to EV ownership even easier.
The 2025 Opel Frontera REEV makes a stronger case through usability, range confidence, and decision clarity rather than pursuing innovation.
