A Modern Monster with Vintage Roots
At the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nissan turned to one of its most enduring nameplates for inspiration. The Forsberg Racing Patrol Concept takes the rugged DNA of the classic Y60-generation SUV and transforms it into an all-out racing machine — engineered, tuned, and brutal in all the right ways
The project was developed by Forsberg Racing, led by three-time Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg, marking another chapter in a long-running collaboration with Nissan’s motorsports arm. It’s part of a broader display that also includes the NISMO GT-Z and other SEMA builds, but this one stands apart — less a show car, more a statement on how heritage can be reborn through pure engineering.
The Y60 Generation Reawakened
Visually, the concept doesn’t stray far from the tough, squared-off proportions that made the 1990 Patrol a legend among off-roaders. The stance is wide and authoritative, sitting on 17-inch NISMO AXIS beadlock wheels wrapped in 35-inch Yokohama GEOLANDAR tires. In order to accommodate the wider track, the fenders flare aggressively, and the SUV has a purposeful, rally-ready posture thanks to its functional hardware and higher ride height.
Nissan says the Y60 was chosen because it represents a golden era — the moment the Patrol name cemented itself globally as a capable overlander and desert racer. This build brings that legacy into the modern age, using parts drawn entirely from the Nissan and NISMO Off Road catalog to keep it “in the family.”
Powertrain and Performance
The beating heart of the concept is a Nissan TB48 turbocharged 4.8-liter inline-six, heavily reworked by Forsberg’s team to deliver a staggering 1,000 horsepower. That power is sent to all four wheels through a reinforced drivetrain designed to handle the strain of high-speed desert runs
Forsberg’s racing expertise shows through in the details — custom cooling systems, weight-balanced components, and an exhaust note that likely echoes across the SEMA hall. It’s an old-school motor paired with modern engineering discipline, and it feels like an ode to when mechanical grit mattered as much as design.
