When the photos landed, the 2025 NIO ET5 Touring Shadow Package immediately caught his eye: it’s the same bones as the refreshed ET5 Touring, but draped in a darker mood. The “Shadow” name is apt — mostly black exterior, exclusive decals, and a design that leans toward stealth.

This is essentially a style variant atop the already-updated ET5 Touring. In May 2025, NIO quietly released a refreshed ET5 and ET5 Touring with more than 500 improvements — in design, tech, ergonomics — but kept the mechanical bones largely intact.

Design First, With a Dark Twist

The Shadow Package leans into contrast. The body is cloaked in deep black tones; accents, decals and brake calipers inject flashes of color (orange is mentioned in some coverage). The roof rails, wheels (20-inch), trim elements, and even grille/diffuser highlights adopt high-gloss blacks, giving an almost “stealth sports wagon” feel.

In terms of proportion, nothing has changed — the Touring remains the same silhouette as the ET5 sedan but stretched with the extended rear cargo volume. The stance feels lower, more purposeful, in these dark tones. Surfaces that might have drawn excess highlight in lighter colors now read more muscular — edges sharpen, shadows deepen.

Inside, one expects little change in layout. The refreshed ET5 family already brought in a 15.6-inch horizontal AMOLED center display, a 50-inch AR head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, improved seats (14-way with heating, ventilation, massage) and acoustic upgrades. The Shadow likely adopts darker interior trim elements — perhaps blacked-out accents, darker upholstery tones, or exclusive materials to match the exterior vibe.

Under the Skin Mostly Familiar

Mechanically, this is a variant on the updated ET5/ET5T. The refresh included adding AC charging capabilities, retuning suspension and steering, updating the smart driving chip to NIO’s Shenji NX9031 (moving away from Nvidia Orin-X), and bolstering active safety and ADAS sensor hardware (29 sensors including LiDAR and 4D radar.

Battery options remain — 75 kWh standard, 100 kWh extended, and a semi-solid 150 kWh top-tier pack giving very long CLTC estimates. For the Touring version, CLTC range is slightly lower than the sedan’s, but still compelling. One notable refresh point: the Touring gets a 1,400 kg towing capacity (with suitable tongue weight).

Performance (motors, torque) holds steady — NIO’s dual-motor AWD (front induction + rear permanent-magnet) setup was maintained, producing combined outputs in the ballpark of 358 kW/700 Nm (480 hp / 700 Nm equivalent) in earlier spec sheets.
