Design: Fiberglass and Surfboard Lines
The Skeg Concept doesn’t look like any regular Mini. Fiberglass body panels cover much of the exterior, semi-transparent in places, giving it the layered texture of a hand-shaped surfboard. The wide arches, squared stance, and illuminated grille still mark it out as a John Cooper Works, but the finish leans more workshop than showroom. Neoprene and raw seams are used as design elements rather than hidden away, a nod to wetsuit material and surf gear that inspired the car.
Performance: JCW Power in Electric Form
Mechanically, the Skeg Concept carries the hardware of the latest JCW Electric. Output stands at 255 horsepower, sent through the front wheels. It covers the 0–100 km/h sprint in around 5.9 seconds, quick enough to hold its ground against its petrol ancestors. Top speed is limited, in line with Mini’s focus on balancing performance with efficiency, but the instant torque delivery keeps it feeling quick and responsive in the way a JCW should.
Interior: Built Around Surf Utility
Inside, the approach is straightforward and functional. Inside, the Skeg feels deliberately stripped back. The trim uses neoprene, the same material you’d find in a wetsuit, so it’s tough and water-friendly. Brass fixings and exposed joints are left on show, more like workshop detailing than showroom polish. Storage has been built in with surfers in mind — space for a board, room for wetsuits — so the car’s layout ends up serving a very specific purpose rather than chasing luxury.
