2025 Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic Concept

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2025 Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic Concept reinterprets the brand’s legendary grille for the EV era.

  • Combines Art Deco-inspired craftsmanship with futuristic tech like solar paint and neuromorphic computing.

  • Previews Level 4 automated driving and steer-by-wire technology for a “lounge on wheels” experience.

A Show Car Bridging Past and Future

In Stuttgart and Shanghai, Mercedes-Benz pulled the covers off what might be its most emotionally charged concept in years — the 2025 Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic Concept. It’s a show car built around a simple idea: bring back the grandeur of classic Mercedes design while pushing deep into the digital and electric age.

The Return of the Iconic Grille

At first glance, it’s the grille that stops you. Wide, upright, chromed — unmistakably Mercedes. The company calls it the Iconic Grille, and it’s as much sculpture as surface. The smoked-glass lattice and contour lighting reinterpret the stately faces of the W108, W111, and 600 Pullman for an era that runs on electricity, not petrol. Even the three-pointed star glows proudly on the bonnet, giving the car a near-theatrical presence when lit at night

Sculptural Proportions and Art Deco Elegance

The proportions echo a bygone era: long hood, sweeping roofline, subtle Art Deco curves. Chief designer Gorden Wagener describes it as “a sculpture in motion,” and he’s not exaggerating. There’s something almost cinematic about its stance — deep black paint, slim headlights, and that gleaming chrome working together like a spotlight on a grand stage.

Hyper-Analogue Luxury Inside

Inside, Mercedes calls it hyper-analogue luxury. Think of a digital-age Zeppelin lounge. There’s a continuous bench seat trimmed in deep blue velvet, a floating glass instrument panel, and a center “Zeppelin” display framed by brass, pearl, and marquetry. The clock doubles as an AI companion, and the floor — yes, the floor — is decorated with hand-laid straw marquetry in fan-shaped Art Deco patterns

Innovation Beneath the Surface

But the Vision Iconic isn’t just nostalgia wrapped in chrome. Underneath the ornamentation is serious tech. Mercedes says the car uses solar paint, a thin photovoltaic coating capable of extending electric range by harvesting sunlight across the body. The system can generate energy equivalent to up to 12,000 km per year in ideal conditions — all without rare earth materials or silicon

A Glimpse of the Autonomous Future

Then there’s neuromorphic computing, a next-generation architecture inspired by the human brain. It’s designed to make AI-driven systems — like object recognition and autonomous driving — far faster and 10 times more energy-efficient. Together with Level 4 automation and steer-by-wire technology, the concept previews how Mercedes envisions effortless, highly intelligent driving in the next decade

From Design Studio to Fashion Runway

To underscore its cultural crossover, Mercedes even unveiled a six-piece capsule collection of fashion inspired by the car’s silver-gold palette and geometric detailing — a nod to the Shanghai Fashion Week launch.
