2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250e H247 Australian Version
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 17, 2025
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250e plug-in hybrid gets more EV range, sharper styling, and new tech inside.
Offers up to 65 km electric-only driving—enough to handle most commutes without touching the petrol engine.
Priced from AUD $78,000 in Australia, with optional packs that push it closer to $85k territory.
Familiar Form, Subtle Tweaks
At a glance, the GLA 250e still looks like a GLA — which isn’t a bad thing. The overall shape remains compact and upright, with just enough slope at the rear to avoid looking boxy. But Mercedes has given it a cleaner front fascia, slimmer LED headlights, and a more mature stance. Subtle stuff, but it adds up. The 18-inch wheels and chrome roof rails are standard, with a floating-style rear spoiler tying it all together.
Under the Skin: Powertrain & Range
The hybrid setup hasn’t been overhauled, but it’s been polished. The 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder returns, this time paired with a 75 kW electric motor. Combined, you get 218 hp (160 kW) and 450 Nm of torque — enough to hit 100 km/h in about 6.6 seconds.
What’s improved is the EV range. A slightly larger 11.5 kWh battery means the GLA 250e can now cover up to 65 km on electricity alone. That’s more than enough for short commutes or errands around town. Keep it plugged in regularly and you’ll barely need to burn petrol during the week.
Cabin Updates & Tech
Inside, Mercedes hasn’t gone wild — and that’s probably a good thing. The dual 10.25-inch displays are still there, but the software has been cleaned up. It’s quicker, crisper, easier to use. The center console is more minimal, with fewer buttons and cleaner lines. It feels more digital now, but not totally disconnected.
Rear seat space stays about the same — usable, not massive — and while the boot loses a bit of volume due to the battery pack, it’s still practical enough for daily life. A panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and tinted glass keep the premium vibe intact.
Price & Market Position
In Australia, the GLA 250e starts at AUD $78,000. That’s not bargain-bin pricing, but Mercedes is aiming for buyers who want efficiency without sacrificing badge appeal. Add the Plus Package, AMG Line, and a few extras, and you're nudging $85,000.
It’s going up against the likes of the BMW X1 xDrive25e and Volvo XC40 Recharge, both of which bring their own strengths — but the GLA still pulls weight with its badge and balance of features.
