2025 Mercedes-Benz E53 AMG Hybrid Estate W213 Graphite Grey
By Lorenzo Bianchi September 12, 2025
The hybrid powertrain uses a 3.0-litre AMG turbo inline-six plus a 161-hp electric motor, producing combined output up to 604 hp with the optional Race Start mode.
Estimated electric-only range is about 42 miles (≈68 km) under EPA cycle; real-world charging supports Level 2 AC and modest DC fast charging for the plug-in hybrid system.
The E53 Hybrid Estate adds estate/wagon practicality to AMG performance with revised chassis, adaptive suspension, all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, and a premium interior. Pricing and release timing vary by market.
Design and Exterior Updates
The E53 AMG Hybrid Estate builds on the new E-Class estate body, retaining the elongated roofline and cargo-friendly format. The front end features AMG-specific styling: wider grille, distinctive LED lighting, larger air intakes, and sporty touches such as unique bumper design and a rear diffuser. The estate version includes roof rails and an extended rear cargo compartment typical of wagon/estate models.
The ride height and stance are lower and wider than standard E-class estate models due to chassis tuning. Wheels are large and wide; while the sedan version offers 20-inch and 21-inch AMG wheels, similar options are expected for the estate.
Powertrain, Performance, and Hybrid Capabilities
Power comes from a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine paired with a permanent-magnet electric motor. The electric motor contributes approximately 161 hp. In typical operation, combined output is about 577 hp, upgradable to 604 hp with the AMG Dynamic Plus package using Race Start mode. Torque is 553 lb-ft.
Acceleration is strong: tests show 0-60 mph in approximately 3.3 seconds in performance trim. Top speed is 174 mph (≈280 km/h) under certain configuration (Dynamic Plus).
Electric Range, Charging, and Fuel Economy
The hybrid battery pack is about 21.2 kWh usable capacity in U.S./EPA spec, enabling around 42 miles (≈68 km) of purely electric driving in ideal conditions.
Charging includes a Level 2 AC charger (~11 kW) and DC fast-charging capability. The battery can be recharged from 10-80% in approximately 20 minutes on DC fast-charge for the sedan version.
Fuel economy when the battery is depleted is estimated at about 23 mpg combined in U.S. testing, with higher range and efficiency in city driving or when the battery is used well
Chassis, Suspension, and Driving Dynamics
Suspension is fully independent front and rear, tuned for both comfort and sport. The Estate version is expected to feature adaptive dampers, AMG Ride Control, and active rear-axle steering for better maneuverability in tight spaces. Rear-axle steering is standard on the hybrid sedan and is likely carried over.
NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) control has been improved via adaptive motor mounts and optimized insulation.
Interior and Cargo Practicality
Inside, the E53 Hybrid Estate combines AMG luxury elements with estate practicality. Materials include Nappa leather, AMG performance seats, stitched upholstery, and special trim finishes. The interior retains modern digital interface typical of new E-Class: wide central display, digital instrument cluster, and robust driver assist systems.
Cargo space is larger than the sedan version due to the estate layout. Split rear seats fold to expand usable volume. Estate versions usually include a retractable cargo cover and roof rails.
