2025 Hyundai Concept THREE

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First compact EV concept under IONIQ: Concept THREE broadens Hyundai’s EV story into a crucial new segment.

  • Design as statement: The Art of Steel theme, Parametric Pixel lighting, and Aero Hatch profile give the car both form and function.

  • Europe in focus: Concept THREE reflects Hyundai’s electrification strategy and its emphasis on the European compact EV market.

A Return to IAA Mobility

After a four-year break, Hyundai’s return to Munich was never going to be low-key. At IAA Mobility 2025, the company lifted the wraps on Concept THREE, its first compact EV concept carrying the IONIQ badge. It’s a carefully judged move, aimed at a part of the market Europe is shaping more than any other.

With urbanization, strict sustainability rules, and demand for smaller, space-efficient cars all driving change, the compact EV segment is becoming the most contested ground. Hyundai is positioning itself there early, using Concept THREE to set the tone for what’s next.

“Returning to IAA Mobility after four years away is a milestone,” said Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe. “Concept THREE represents the next step in Hyundai Motor’s electrification journey. With its compact dimensions and Art of Steel design language, it embodies our vision of delivering mobility that is practical, accessible, and emotionally resonant”

Proportions and Presence

The numbers put the car in familiar compact territory: 4,287 mm long, 1,940 mm wide, and 1,428 mm high, riding on a 2,722 mm wheelbase. That footprint makes it nimble enough for tight city streets but spacious enough to carry a proper cabin.

The exterior is finished in Tungsten Gray, a neutral tone chosen to underline the design work, while the interior uses Moonbeam Yellow, a brighter counterpoint that adds character

Design in Steel and Light

Hyundai calls the new design approach Art of Steel, a way of turning structural strength into sculptural beauty. The body is defined by flowing volumes intersected with precise lines, a reminder that steel can still be expressive.
