2025 BYD Dolphin Surf UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2025 BYD Dolphin Surf gets a refresh with updated lighting, grille, and longer body.

  • New motor options ranging from 95 PS to 150 kW offer up to 520 km CLTC range.

  • Interior gains include larger displays and driver assistance tech branded as "God’s Eye C".

The 2025 BYD Dolphin Surf arrives carrying small but meaningful updates. In pictures, the hatchback shows sharper LED headlights, a more prominent front bumper, and a tweaked rear diffuser. The overall silhouette stretches slightly—about 130 mm longer—giving it a more planted look compared to earlier models.

Exterior: Refined Lines and Improved Presence

The refreshed front fascia feels cleaner. Air curtains flank updated LED units that appear more angular in design. Around back, the taillights adopt a wave-inspired motif and the traditional “Build Your Dreams” badge is replaced with a simple BYD logo. The side profile now rides on fresh 17-inch wheels. These changes don’t reinvent the BYD Dolphin Surf’s Marine Aesthetic, but they add subtle maturity.

Cabin: Bigger Screens, Crisp Interface

Inside is familiar, but better. The update brings a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen and a new 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The old 5-inch dial is gone. The new steering wheel shares styling cues with BYD’s Seal model and includes a Mercedes-style column-mounted gear selector. Fresh trim accents and repositioned console flows give the cabin a modest facelift.

Powertrain and Range: New Motor, Better Performance

BYD offers three motor versions: 95 PS (70 kW), 177 PS (130 kW), and 210 PS (150 kW) variants. Torque outputs reach from 180 Nm up to 310 Nm. The base uses a 44.9 kWh LFP Blade battery, delivering around 420 km CLTC. The top Knight trim steps up to a 60.48 kWh pack with a claimed 520 km CLTC range. The most potent version accelerates noticeably quicker—and tops out around 160 km/h depending on variant.

Safety and Assistance: New “God’s Eye C” Features

Upgraded driver aids under the “God’s Eye C” banner add a suite of semi-autonomous tools. Expect lane change assist, obstacle avoidance, and route memory to be standard. These upgrades bring the BYD Dolphin Surf closer to global expectations for urban EVs, particularly in support of city-to-hinterland driving.

Global Context: A Practical Companion in an EV-Crazy Market

In markets like China, Southeast Asia, and parts of Europe, the BYD Dolphin Surf now challenges cars like Renault 5, Dacia Spring, and GWM Ora. Its updated range and added tech push it into more serious consideration—without raising prices. In the Philippines and UK, it’s positioned against entry-level EVs and compact hatchbacks.

Growth in export versions has seen the BYD Dolphin Surf grow from a subcompact into a compact class car. That extra length improves cabin feel and adds to its competitive edge.

On the Move: What It Signals

From the first look, the 2025 BYD Dolphin Surf appears to stay true to its roots: efficient, accessible EV ownership. It doesn’t overstate its appeal. Instead, it quietly evolves—better tech, longer range, a cleaner face—while keeping pricing stable. For city dwellers, families, or first-time EV buyers, it ticks many boxes. In crowded electric segments, that steady refinement counts.
