2025 BMW M5 Touring G99 UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • M HYBRID system delivers 535 kW (727 hp) and 1,000 Nm.

  • 0–62 mph in 3.6 seconds, up to 305 km/h with M Driver’s Package.

  • 61–67 km electric range with 18.6 kWh usable battery capacity.

Electrified V8 Power in a Touring Body

The 2025 BMW M5 Touring G99 UK Version marks the return of a formula last seen in 2007: a full-fat M5 wrapped in a Touring body. This time, it arrives electrified. For the first time in an M5 Touring, the drivetrain is built around BMW’s M HYBRID system, combining a high-revving 4.4-litre V8 with an electric motor using fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology

System output stands at 535 kW (727 hp), developed from up to 430 kW (585 hp) from the V8 and up to 145 kW (197 hp) from the electric motor. Combined system torque peaks at 1,000 Nm

The numbers alone redefine expectations for a performance estate.

Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) is quoted at 3.6 seconds, while 0–200 km/h takes 11.1 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, or 305 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package

Hybrid Architecture Derived from Motorsport

The M HYBRID setup draws directly from BMW M Hybrid V8 endurance racing technology. The 4.4-litre engine features M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold, revving to 7,200 rpm. Cooling and oil systems are designed for track use, and the sports exhaust incorporates electronically controlled flaps

The electric motor is integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. A unique pre-gearing stage increases effective torque at the transmission input to 450 Nm, ensuring immediate response when pulling away

An 18.6 kWh high-voltage battery provides 61–67 kilometres of electric range in the WLTP cycle, allowing zero local-emission driving at speeds up to 140 km/h. AC charging at up to 11 kW is supported as standard

M xDrive and Chassis Precision

Power is distributed via M xDrive all-wheel drive with Active M Differential. Drivers can select between 4WD, 4WD Sport and pure rear-wheel-drive 2WD modes with DSC deactivated

The system works in concert with a reinforced chassis featuring model-specific bracing elements front and rear.

Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering are standard. Wheel sizes measure 20 inches at the front and 21 at the rear, filling pronounced arches and emphasising the Touring’s width

Design and Everyday Usability

Visually, the G99 blends extrovert M-specific detailing with the familiar long-roof silhouette. A high proportion of body-coloured surfaces gives the car a puristic look, contrasted by a Black roof finish. The rear is defined by a distinctive roof spoiler, vertical reflectors and a two-section diffuser framing twin exhaust outlets on either side

Inside, the 2025 BMW M5 Touring G99 UK Version combines sports-car intent with practicality. Boot capacity increases from 500 litres to a maximum of 1,630 litres with the rear seats folded

Standard features include Merino leather trim, BMW Curved Display with M-specific readouts, Bowers & Wilkins surround sound, and four-zone automatic climate control.

Position in the Performance Estate Market

The 2025 BMW M5 Touring G99 UK Version enters a segment where high-performance estates are increasingly rare. With electrified V8 power, genuine all-electric capability and substantial load space, it offers a multifaceted proposition: track-capable when required, composed over long distances and practical enough for everyday life.
