Design that leans upscale

The CX-60 is Mazda’s clearest step toward premium yet. At 4,740 mm long and 1,890 mm wide, it plants itself firmly in midsize SUV territory. The long hood and rear-biased proportions immediately signal a different intent compared with Mazda’s smaller crossovers. Surface detailing is restrained, with clean lines and subtle sculpting rather than ornamentation.

Inside, the theme carries through. The cabin makes use of quality materials and crisp horizontal design. Higher trims push it further with details like woven textiles, leather finishes, and polished metalwork. It’s a deliberate play at the territory usually reserved for Audi or Lexus.

Three engines, three distinct flavors

Mazda gives the CX-60 buyers a rare choice in this class: two six-cylinders and a plug-in hybrid.

• The 3.3-litre inline-six petrol, paired with mild-hybrid tech, produces 209 kW and 450 Nm. It reaches 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

• The 3.3-litre diesel alternative puts out 187 kW and 500 Nm, with a 0–100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds.

• The range-topping 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pairs a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver 241 kW and 500 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

All versions use Mazda’s eight-speed automatic and a rear-biased all-wheel drive layout. Driving modes include Normal, Sport, Off-Road, Towing, and, on the PHEV, a dedicated EV mode.

Cabin tech and driver focus

Mazda has designed the CX-60 to feel advanced without overwhelming. A pair of 12.3-inch displays — one for the driver, one for infotainment — dominate the dash. The system supports the usual smartphone integration but also introduces Mazda’s Driver Personalization System. Using an in-cabin camera, it recognizes who’s behind the wheel and automatically adjusts seating, mirrors, and the head-up display.

Top trims load on the luxuries: heated and ventilated seating, a panoramic sunroof, premium Bose audio, and multi-zone climate. The ergonomics remain simple, with tactile controls complementing the digital screens.

Practicality and space

The CX-60 isn’t only about polish. Cargo space measures 477 L with the seats up and extends to 1,726 L when folded flat. The rear bench splits 40/20/40, giving flexibility for long items and passengers.

Braked towing capacity peaks at 2,500 kg for the petrol and plug-in models, and 2,000 kg for the diesel. These numbers put the CX-60 in line with some larger SUVs, making it a legitimate tool for family travel and light utility work.

Mazda isn’t shy about where the CX-60 sits. Entry pricing starts at AUD $60,550 for the base Evolve G40e Hybrid, climbing to around AUD $88,800 for the fully equipped Azami Takumi PHEV.
