2022 BMW M5 CS F90 UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • 635hp 4.4-litre V8, 0–62mph in 3.0 seconds, 189mph top speed.

  • Approximately 70kg lighter than M5 Competition.

  • Track-focused chassis with standard carbon ceramic brakes.

635hp Twin Turbo V8 Performance

The 2022 BMW M5 CS F90 UK Version arrives as the most powerful production BMW M car to date. Output from its 4.4-litre V8 with M TwinPower Turbo technology stands at 635hp at 6,000rpm, with peak torque of 750Nm available from 1,800 to 5,950rpm.

Paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, the M5 CS reaches 62mph in 3.0 seconds and continues to an electronically limited 189mph. It requires 10.4 seconds to reach 124mph from rest.

Engine response can be configured via EFFICIENT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, with the latter sharpening throttle mapping and intensifying the exhaust character. An M Sound Control button allows the acoustic profile to be softened when required.

Chassis Lowered and Retuned for Track Use

The M5 CS builds on the M5 Competition chassis but rides 7mm lower. It adopts dampers developed for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé, while spring and damper tuning have been recalibrated to reflect reduced vehicle weight and the higher grip levels of its tyres.

Standard fitment includes Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres sized 275/35 R20 front and 285/35 R20 rear, mounted on 20-inch forged Y-spoke wheels finished in Gold Bronze.

M Carbon ceramic brakes are standard, saving 23kg over the M Compound setup. Six-piston front calipers clamp large discs, delivering improved fade resistance and thermal stability under sustained load.

The M xDrive system retains its rear-biased character and offers selectable 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD modes, allowing experienced drivers to revert to pure rear-wheel drive.

Carbon Fibre Weight Reduction Strategy

Extensive use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic contributes to an overall weight reduction of approximately 70kg compared with the M5 Competition. The bonnet, front splitter, mirror caps, rear spoiler and diffuser are all formed from CFRP.

Exterior detailing distinguishes the CS immediately. Gold Bronze accents highlight the kidney grille surround, front wing gills and “M5 CS” badging. Extended high-gloss Shadowline trim frames the side windows and pillars. BMW Laserlight units introduce a distinctive yellow tone when low or high beam is activated.

The 2022 BMW M5 CS F90 UK Version is offered in Brands Hatch Grey metallic or exclusive matt finishes Frozen Deep Green metallic and Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic.

Four Seat Race Inspired Interior

Inside, the CS adopts a four-seat configuration with individual M Carbon bucket seats front and rear. The front seats feature illuminated M5 logos and Nürburgring outlines embossed in the head restraints.

Black Merino leather is paired with Mugello Red contrast panels and stitching. An M Alcantara steering wheel with red centre marker and carbon shift paddles reinforces the car’s track intent.

A 12.3-inch central display and configurable M Mode allow drivers to tailor engine, chassis and drivetrain settings. Dedicated M1 and M2 steering wheel buttons store personalised setups.

Priced at £140,780 OTR in the UK, with deliveries commencing in spring 2021, the M5 CS sits at the summit of the F90 hierarchy.

In market context, the 2022 BMW M5 CS F90 UK Version targets buyers seeking supercar-level acceleration in a four-door format. It remains recognisably an M5. Only sharper. Lighter. And considerably faster.
