2013 Maserati Quattroporte Zegna Edition Concept
By Lorenzo Bianchi August 3, 2013
The Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition concept debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, built as a preview of a planned 2014 production version.
Its exterior uses a special platinum metal-effect paint built on ultra-fine aluminium pigments over a gloss black primer.
The cabin pairs genuine soft leather with a Zegna-developed velvet-smooth fabric, in a colour palette of moka and greige.
Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna picked the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 to show what happens when a Modena car company and an Italian tailoring house sit down together for a second time. The Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition arrived as a concept, but Maserati was upfront that this one wasn't meant to stay a one-off — the plan was a production version to follow in 2014, keeping the same character and quality buyers already knew from the regular Quattroporte range.
Exterior Finish
Rather than reworking any sheet metal, Zegna's team focused on paint and finish to set the concept apart. The headline effect is a special platinum metal-colour paint, formulated with ultra-fine aluminium pigments to mimic the fluidity of liquid metal. A gloss black primer sits underneath it, which Maserati says deepens the sense of depth and amplifies how the aluminium particles catch light. The overall tone reads warm rather than cold, aiming for something Maserati describes as classic and sophisticated but still technically advanced.
Interior Materials
The interior carries most of the concept's identity. Maserati and Zegna leaned on a palette of moka and greige — classic tones, but reworked here to echo Zegna's then-current menswear collections, giving the cabin a formal, tailored feel rather than a flashy one. Seats, door panels and the roof lining are trimmed in soft leather, paired with a velvet-smooth, bright fabric developed specifically by Zegna to meet automotive durability requirements.
Market Positioning
Maserati positioned the car as more than a design study — a genuine step toward a production limited edition, built on a partnership the brand described as rooted in shared history, tradition and exclusivity between the two companies.
