2023 DS 3 Performance Line

After the DS 7 Crossback, the DS 3 Crossback was the second independent model from the Parisian premium brand DS Automobiles and was launched in 2019. Now the B premium SUV is getting an extensive update. Just like its bigger brother, the DS 3 does not have the suffix Crossback. Among other things, the more powerful electric motor for the E-Tense variant with 115 kW (instead of the previous 100 kW) or 156 hp and a combined range according to WLTP of up to 400 kilometers is new. The infotainment also gets an important update with the DS Iris system. New DS LED Matrix Vision headlights, a new daytime running light and a new grill characterize the freshly styled front. There are also new interior designs to discover and two new body colors with Diva Red and Silk Gray. Market launch is planned for early 2023. DS Automobiles is taking the start of Paris Fashion Week as an opportunity to present its own latest creation, the new DS 3. As a long-standing partner of the “Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode”, the French premium brand chose this important event in the French fashion metropolis entirely conscious to present the new DS 3 in the streets of Paris. Model and brand ambassador Andrea Brotschi unveiled the new city SUV during a photo shoot.

New front, refined rear and exclusive colors

The new DS 3 presents itself in a new look. The most obvious developments concern the front end: this has gained in dynamism and robustness without compromising on elegance.

The typical DS design language is adopted, among other things, by the redesigned radiator grille, which has been widened and, depending on the model, has shiny black or chrome-plated diamonds. The DS Wings have also been revised to harmoniously combine the grille and headlights.

The new LED headlights – standard across the range – give a more dynamic look with three functional modules accented by satin chrome. DS Matrix LED Vision with intelligent control and automatic high beam for maximum comfort and safety are optionally available. The new daytime running lights consist of two LED lines arranged vertically on either side of the front end, forming a distinctive, widening light signature.

The attention to detail is also evident in the finish of the emblems on the grille and bonnet, available in different colors depending on the model, and finished with a “Clous de Paris” guilloche pattern.

The profile retains its unmistakable signature and manages the balancing act between daring design and technical know-how with the distinctive shark fin of the DS 3, the recessed door handles and the invisible outer window seals.

The rear has also been refined: by eliminating the “Crossback” suffix, the lettering on the rear becomes the brand name “DS Automobiles” as on the DS 7, which now sits enthroned between the new rear lights on a matt black background.

The wheels are also redesigned to increase efficiency. They are available in 17 and 18 inches.

The new DS 3 is offered in seven body colors. The color diva red is new and exclusive to the new DS 3. Silk Grey, Crystal Grey, Platinium Grey, Artense Grey, Perla Nera Black and Polar White complete the range. There is the option of a two-tone paint finish with a roof in Perla Nera Black or the new Karat Gray

Interior: Inspired by Parisian luxury

The new DS 3 takes inspiration from Parisian luxury expertise to create an exclusive atmosphere.

The materials have been chosen with great attention to detail and offer a finish characterized by excellence, innovation and sustainability.

In particular, the nappa leather upholstery with the Art Leather finish, Alcantara® and details such as the decorative pearl stitching or the “Clous de Paris” guilloche pattern make the designs from DS Automobiles unique. This attention to detail, which is firmly rooted in the brand’s DNA, is also found in the new DS 3.

2023 DS 3 Performance Line Front View 3/4

The driver’s position has changed with a new steering wheel that regroups driver aid controls and infotainment buttons and combines them with paddle shifters for the automatic transmission. A new, high-resolution 10.3-inch central screen with the new DS Iris infotainment system is now standard on board.

The seats of the new DS 3 are characterized by design and technology that serve the purpose of optics and well-being. They offer good support and are covered with an innovative, high-density foam that ensures best-in-class seating comfort. The front seats are heated, have electric adjustments (forward and backward, up and down, recline, lumbar support) and offer a massage function.

The top trim level Opéra features a black nappa leather interior with a watch strap design that combines creative luxury with character and modernity.

The second-highest equipment line, Rivoli , offers new grained leather seats in basalt black with decorative stitching in basalt black. Upholstery in Pebble Gray with a combination of Nappa leather and fabric is also available.

In the Performance Line and Performance Line + equipment lines , the seats, dashboard strips and door panels are finished with Alcantara®. The new grained leather seats in basalt black are optionally available.

The Bastille trim line has been completely revised and features new Peruzzi fabric seats in Silicon Gray with scale-effect graining on the dashboard and door panels. New grained leather seats in Basalt Black are available as an option.

Variety of useful technologies

The new DS 3 gets a new infotainment system controlled via a large, high-resolution 10.3-inch central screen. Networked navigation and intelligent speech recognition run via the DS Iris system . What is special about this system is the possibility to customize the central screen and the 7-inch instrument panel with head-up display that projects the most important information in the driver’s field of vision. The central screen is divided into 12 units and can accommodate widgets of different sizes. The Mirror Screen functions are now available wirelessly.

The DS 3 also gets a  new 360-degree camera. Thanks to new, high-resolution digital cameras, it offers an all-round view of impressive quality and is active at low speeds. Also standard are the lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition with information on the instrument display and Active Safety Brake up to a speed of 85 km/h. DS Drive Assist is also optional on board and combines the adaptive cruise control with the stop-and-go function and the lane departure warning system. The optional advanced traffic sign recognition not only recognizes speed limit signs, but also certain traffic signs (stop signs, one-way streets and no-overtaking zones).

The new DS 3 is equipped with LED headlights throughout and thus shows a new face. The new design consists of three horizontally aligned rectangular modules, highlighted by an elegant satin finish moulding, giving the vehicle a bolder look. The light output is improved while the energy consumption is reduced in order to increase the range of the DS 3 E-Tense or reduce CO ₂ emissions (combustion engines).

DS Matrix LED Vision is available as an option. This arrangement creates a beam of light that automatically adjusts to its setting, allowing continuous driving in “high beam” mode without dazzling other road users. DS Matrix LED Vision works with 3 LED modules that have the “low beam” function, but also with a unit divided into 15 segments for each headlight. This unit’s LEDs turn on and off in segments based on driving conditions captured by a camera at the top of the windshield. DS Matrix LED Vision shines far without dazzling the vehicle ahead or oncoming. A real safety gain, especially at night.

2023 DS 3 Performance Line Interior

Like its predecessor, the new DS 3 comes with retractable door handles. If the driver comes within 1.5 meters with the key, the vehicle unlocks automatically and the four handles move out of the body almost magically.

MyDS App: New Connected Services

The services managed by the MyDS app allow you to lock and unlock the doors, turn on the headlights, trigger an audible signal and control remote battery charging. Added to this is the possibility of controlling the programming of the thermal preconditioning as well as the programming and management of the state of charge of the new DS 3 E-Tense. The MyDS app is also complemented by a Send2Nav module, which can be used to search for a destination and send it directly to the new DS 3’s infotainment system.

motorisations

DS Automobiles offers the new DS 3 with three different drive types: electric, petrol and diesel.

The new DS 3 E-Tense receives a completely new electric motor (assembled in Trémery-Metz), a reduction gear (made in Valenciennes) and a new battery (made in Poissy) to increase performance and range.

The new hybrid synchronous motor (HSM) benefits from know-how acquired in Formula E to achieve high efficiency. It offers an output of 115 kW (156 hp) and a torque of 260 Nm at a voltage of 400 volts. The new 54kWh battery (50.8kWh usable) features liquid circulation thermal control and a heat pump, allowing for fast charging, increased range and longer life. The standard onboard charger provides 100 kW in DC (0 to 80% in 25 minutes) and 11 kW in AC (0 to 100% in 5 hours).

The architecture has also been optimized. Thanks to the improved energy density, the battery is very compact and is housed under the front and rear seats and the center tunnel. Handling and driving position are absolutely identical to other drives, and shock resistance exceeds the most stringent requirements.

Unique in its segment, the new DS 3 E-Tense achieves a range of up to 400 kilometers in the combined WLTP cycle (12.6 kWh/100 km) and more than 500 km in city traffic. This is due to the efficiency of the electric motor, its ability to regenerate energy, additional devices such as the heat pump, thermal preconditioning and the new LED headlights, as well as the aerodynamic optimization of the front end and wheels. In addition, the ground clearance has been reduced by 10 mm on the models with Tall & Narrow 17 and 18 inch wheels.

In addition, the new DS 3 is also offered with two petrol powertrains: PureTech 100 with a 6-speed manual gearbox and PureTech 130 with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A BlueHDi 130 diesel with an 8-speed automatic gearbox completes the range of engines. The petrol and diesel engines meet the latest emission standards.

Order start and prices

Orders are now open. The DS 3 can be ordered with a total of four engines: an electric version, two petrol versions and one diesel version. Prices for Germany start at 26,740 euros; Market launch is planned for early 2023.
