About the Car

2023 Alpina BMW D4 S Gran Coupé

The new BMW ALPINA D4 S combines the best of two worlds: a drivetrain that offers excellent throttle response at low rpm’s yet which is sporty and high-revving, unlike most typical modern diesels. Mild hybrid technology with a 48-volt starter generator improves throttle response and efficiency, effortlessly offering long driving ranges in combination with a high performance output. The straight-six 3.0 litre engine with Bi-Turbo charging offers a maximum output of 261 kW (355 hp). The maximum torque of 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) is available between 1750 and 2750 rpm for immediate power delivery in every driving situation. The BMW ALPINA D4 S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 170 km/h / 168 mph.

The high specific power output of the engine is made possible by the latest injection and charging system with two exhaust gas turbochargers. Both the high- and the low-pressure stages have variable turbine geometry to ensure spontaneous boost delivery and throttle response.

In combination with the ALPINA intercoolers, the ALPINA high-performance cooling system with large-volume coolers, a transmission oil cooler, two relocated coolant coolers and an electromechanical coolant pump, ensure the thermodynamic stability of the engine, even under maximum operating envelopes. Underbody air channels leading to the cooling package increase cooling performance.

The all-wheel drive is based on the BMW xDrive system, which allows for a fully variable torque distribution between the front and rear axle. As befits the athletic character of the BMW ALPINA D4 S, the torque distribution is rear-wheel biased. In addition, the electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential ensures optimal traction and agility – especially during dynamic cornering.

A diesel oxidation catalyst and SCR coating in the diesel particulate filter together with an engine-near SCR system and two SCR catalysts with AdBlue® injection provide for reduction of the nitrogen oxides contained in the diesel exhaust. Fuel consumption measured according to the new and more realistic WLTP measuring cycle (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) is 6.9 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 182 g/km.*

TRAVEL COMFORT AND DRIVING DYNAMICS
THE ALPINA SPORT SUSPENSION

As a true Gran Turismo, the BMW ALPINA D4 S Gran Coupé combines emotional driving dynamics with comfortable touring. The ALPINA Sport Suspension masters challenging road conditions with ease and excels in dynamic driving manoeuvres, remaining composed at high speeds with a strong sense of safety.

A negative camber of 1.25° at the front axle in combination with a specially developed front-axle anti-roll bar increase lateral dynamics significantly. A bespoke spring and damper configuration ensures balanced suspension characteristics and the specific adaptation of the variable damper control ensures a noticeable differentiation between the various driving modes.

The variable sports steering offers direct steering feel and feedback. The driver can choose between three steering modes: COMFORT mode offers balanced directional stability with a good safety feeling into the higher-speed range, while the two SPORT modes are characterised by substantially more direct feedback.

PROGRESSIVE WHEEL DESIGN, HIGH-PERFORMANCE TYRES
WHEELS & TYRES

The progressive wheel design of the BMW ALPINA D4 S picks up on the distinctive shape of the body. Twenty delicate spokes run from the centre of the wheel, which features a lockable wheel hub cap, to the outer rim. The wheel is manufactured in a complex forging process, which results in a weight of only 12 kg, quite remarkable for a wheel size of 20”. The low rotational mass helps to achieve excellent ride quality despite the performance wheel/tyre configuration which measures 8.5×20“ with 255/35 ZR20 at the front and 10×20“ with 285/30 ZR20 at the rear. The wheels are optionally available in Black or Anthracite.

The Pirelli P ZERO ultra-high performance tyres* offer high levels of grip and lateral support. The manufacturer code ALP on the tyre flank indicates that this is a custom tyre developed specifically by Pirelli for ALPINA. During the development process equal emphasis was placed on ride comfort and dynamic characteristics. For winter driving and colder climates 20” Pirelli SOTTOZERO Serie II (ALP) tyres** are available.

Four-piston fixed brake callipers with Ø 395 mm (15.6“) brake discs at the front axle and floating brake callipers with Ø 345 mm (13.6“) brake discs at the rear axle, offer generous safety reserves. The optional high-performance brake system*** with drilled lightweight composite brake discs offers more precise pedal feedback and thermodynamic reserves.

ELEGANT COUPÉ LINE, POWERFUL PRESENCE
DESIGN & EQUIPMENT

The BMW ALPINA D4 S Gran Coupé is characterised by an expressive, elegant design with an elongated silhouette and flowing roofline. The ALPINA front spoiler accentuates the athletic front, while at the rear an unobtrusive spoiler takes up the elegant coupé lines. The rear also features four oval tailpipes of the ALPINA sport exhaust system, a long-standing hallmark of the brand, between which a rear diffusor is neatly integrated. A wide range of BMW and BMW Individual paint finishes are available for the BMW ALPINA D4 S. The ALPINA Blue and ALPINA Green metallic paint finishes synonymous with the brand are exclusively reserved for the BMW ALPINA automobiles.

The standard equipment of the BMW ALPINA D4 S is class leading and includes comfort features such as seat and steering wheel heating but also the latest BMW assistance systems like the Parking and Driving Assistant including Speed Limit Assist, Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Warning. Elegant details like the ALPINA production plaque with individual build number or the steering wheel hand-stitched in luxurious LAVALINA leather add a touch of exclusivity to the interior.

The BMW ALPINA D4 S interior can also be upgraded to a complete bespoke LAVALINA leather upholstery. The naturally tanned leather is in a quality class of its own in the automotive segment, and is prized for both its supple softness and its temperature-balancing properties. In ALPINA’s in-house leather workshop, even the most unique customer wishes can be made reality by master craftsmen.
