About the Car

2023 Alpina BMW B3 Touring

Superior power development, torque and smoothness. With a new exhaust system featuring the latest exhaust gas treatment technology and new engine software, the BMW ALPINA B3 drivetrain now represents a new stage of technological evolution. It now generates 364 kW (495 hp) of power – an increase of 24 kW (33 hp) – from 3.0 litres of displacement and utilising two ALPINA specific mono-scroll turbochargers. The maximum torque has risen by 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) to 730 Nm (538 lb-ft). The drivetrain provides brisk propulsion, catapulting the BMW ALPINA B3 Saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds*, the Touring taking 3.7 seconds* – the top speed is 305 km/h* (190 mph*) and 302 km/h* (188 mph*) for the latter. The straight-six cylinder bi-turbo engine, which is based on the BMW S58 engine, is fitted with ALPINA specific flow-optimised turbine housings to effectively convert exhaust gas energy into boost pressure at low engine speeds. The large intercooler increases the efficiency of the charging system. An optimised air intake duct with large-volume air filter housings aids engine response. The power delivery is effortless throughout the full rpm range, which is a hallmark of the superior driving experience for which ALPINA is known.

Thermal stability is ensured by a high-performance cooling system with two relocated coolant coolers, cooling air ducts with an optimised cross section and a powerful main cooling package paired with a 1,000-watt electric fan.

The 8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission (8HP76) offers both outstanding shift comfort and dynamics depending on the chosen transmission mode. To be able to handle a torque output of 730 Nm, selected transmission components like the torque converter and the wheel set have been structurally reinforced.

To reduce the exhaust back pressure, the ALPINA engineers rely on wide diameters in the exhaust system as well as large cross section particulate filters.

The new BMW ALPINA B3 models are homologated to the latest Euro 6d-ISC-FCM emission standard. Fuel consumption measured according to the new and more realistic WLTP measuring cycle (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) is 10.1 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 229 g/km.*

PRECISION, AGILITY, DYNAMICS
ALPINA SPORT SUSPENSION

The superior driving experience of the BMW ALPINA B3 is largely influenced by the ALPINA Sport Suspension. Utilising the variable damper control, the ALPINA chassis engineers have created a wide range of set-ups offering excellent ride comfort and precise, dynamic handling. Four driving modes are available: COMFORT+, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. The precision and agility that characterise the BMW ALPINA B3’s handling are achieved through the ALPINA calibrated variable sports steering as well specific springs, bump stops and stabilisers for improved body control.

TRACTION & COMFORT
WHEEL & TYRES

The BMW ALPINA B3 features a fully variable all-wheel drive system and an electronically controlled rear axle limited-slip differential as standard, which in combination with the tailor-made performance tyres, provide very high levels of grip and traction. The ALPINA engineers, in cooperation with the Pirelli tyre experts, have developed model-specific tyres for both the standard ALPINA DYNAMIC 19“ cast wheels* in a 5×4 spoke design and the optional ALPINA CLASSIC 20“ forged wheels** in a 20-spoke design. These bespoke tyres can be recognised by the manufacturer identification ALP on the sidewall of the tyre. Through the use of materials and construction techniques usually reserved for the ultra-high-performance segment, the tyres offer high safety margins, dynamic grip and ride comfort.

The brake system, comprising 4-piston fixed brake callipers with brake discs of 395 mm diameter on the front axle and floating brake callipers with brake discs of 345 mm diameter on the rear axle, offer excellent deceleration and sensitive modulation. Brake callipers are finished in ALPINA Blue and feature a white ALPINA lettering. The optionally available high-performance brake system with light-weight drilled brake discs and highly heat-resistant brake pads offers even more direct pedal feedback and thermodynamic reserves.

PROGRESSIVE
DESIGN & EQUIPMENT

The revised exterior design underlines the sporty character of the BMW ALPINA B3 models. The ALPINA aerodynamic components at the front and rear take up the new, progressive shape and give the BMW ALPINA B3 models a unique appearance. In addition to the traditional ALPINA paint finishes ALPINA Blue and ALPINA Green, there are many BMW and BMW Individual paint finishes available, including new options such as Melbourne Red, Brooklyn Grey and Skyscraper Grey.

The latest generation of the BMW iDrive adds a new, digital dimension to the vehicle-driver interaction. The technological basis is provided by the BMW Operating System 8 in combination with intuitive control options like the outstanding voice control offered by the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The degree of personalisation in the displays has reached a new level, including in the optional head-up display with optimised graphics performance. In accordance with the BMW design principle of “eyes on the road – hands on the wheel”, all displays offer logical driver orientation and can also be tailored to drivers’ individual needs. The integration of third-party apps works seamlessly.

In the cockpit, the large 14.9“ curved display allows the digital instrument panel and the central control display to merge into one unit. The gauges of the digital instrument panel are designed in a trademark ALPINA Blue and Green colour scheme. The digital vehicle illustration in the central display now depicts a detailed image of the actual ALPINA model in question.

The model update also brings along additions to the standard equipment which now includes LED headlights with extended features in a new design as well as the interior and exterior mirror package with automatic dimming function.
