The front grille design features fins comprising two lines of differing thickness. This configuration helps the headlamps and signature wing stand out from afar, giving the front face a sharp look and greater three-dimensional depth.

Fog lamp bezels, pillar garnishes and side garnish mouldings are finished in gloss black for a high-quality premium appearance. And the rear combination lamps adopt a ring shape combined with horizontal lines. The mechanical precision and depth of this design combines a mature, premium look with high-quality illumination.

A Polymetal Grey Metallic finish has been added to the CX-3 body colour line-up for the first time. It fuses the solid feel of metal with the uniquely smooth lustre of resin to create a new expression of quality. Adding further prestige to the appearance of the CX-3, the powerful, sculpted design of 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels featuring multi-faceted spokes provides a sense of depth, speed and increased size

Lastly, the 2021 CX-3 will be available as a Special Edition model. This combines a new interior colour scheme with a gloss Black finish to the door mirror heads, front grille, pillars, and other exterior trim details.

POWERTRAINS

⦁ Skyactiv-G 2.0 litre engine with manual transmission equipped with cylinder deactivation
⦁ Two cylinder shut off offers a 14% reduction in combined cycle fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

The 2021 CX-3 is available with a 121 PS Skyactiv-G 2.0 petrol engine mated to a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, and front-wheel drive. Manual transmission variants now benefit from Mazda’s cylinder deactivation system, which shuts off two cylinders during light-load operation or at cruising speeds, resulting in a 14% reduction in combined cycle fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine with manual transmission now returns NEDC combined fuel economy of 5.3 l/100 km, and a WLTP combined figure of 6.2 l/100 km. Simultaneously, CO2 emissions have been reduced to an NEDC combined figure of 121 g/km, and a WLTP combined figure of 140 g/km.

Mated to an automatic transmission, the Skyactiv-G 2.0 unit returns NEDC combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures of 6.0 l/100 km and 136 g/km respectively, and WLTP combined figures of 7.1 l/100 km and 160 g/km. Equipped with automatic transmission, the CX-3 will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.9 seconds, and on to a maximum speed of 187 km/h. Manual variants achieve 0-100 km/h in 9.1 seconds and a maximum speed of 192 km/h.

The Euro 6d-compliant Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine benefits from precision intake port machining and a piston profile designed to increase airflow tumble during compression and strengthen turbulence energy during ignition. This increases combustion speed for enhanced low- and mid-range torque, while reducing fuel consumption at high rpm.

Several further measures have been designed to improve engine efficiency and lower fuel consumption. The port profile of the multi-port injector combines with a 30 MPa fuel pressure to optimise fuel-injection efficiency for waste-free combustion. A coolant control valve system prevents coolant flow around the combustion chamber during initial warm up. This allows the chamber wall to heat rapidly, reducing the excess fuel volume usually needed during cold starts and improving engine warm-up efficiency for enhanced real-world fuel economy. In addition, a barrel-shaped piston skirt and an optimised oil ring profile significantly reduce mechanical resistance to improve overall fuel economy.

DRIVING DYNAMICS

⦁ Mazda Skyactiv-Vehicle Dynamics, perfecting Jinba Ittai – car and driver as one – driving experience
⦁ Comprehensive NVH measures for low cabin noise, conversational clarity and a premium feel

The latest developments in Mazda’s next generation Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture have been engineered from an entirely human-centred perspective to offer owners the ultimate Jinba Ittai -car and driver as one- driving experience.

The CX-3’s front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension system and G-Vectoring Control (GVC) combine agility and handling stability with superior ride comfort. Suspension coil spring fluctuation settings, large diameter front dampers and a small diameter front stabiliser further improve suspension functionality while enhancing both driving stability and ride comfort.
The control characteristics of the electric power steering have also been designed to enhance steering through corners. And 215/50R18 low-profile tyres feature a soft vertical spring to enhance ride comfort.

Comprehensive NVH measures include an increased thickness to the door seam welds and a thicker cabin headliner for low cabin noise and conversational clarity.

In combination, the painstakingly tuned suspension system, specially developed tyres and the use of higher-damping urethane in the front seat construction provide a quieter and more comfortable ride, and an even more engaging driving experience.

SAFETY

⦁ Updated Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS) with night-time pedestrian detection
⦁ Automatic headlamp function adjusted for earlier activation
⦁ 360 degree overhead view monitor now available

The 2021 CX-3 is equipped with an even wider range of advanced i-Activsense safety technologies to help drivers identify potential risks and reduce the likelihood of damage or injury. An updated version of Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS) has an enhanced ability to detect pedestrians at night. The system uses a forward sensing camera to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead and to help avoid collisions or mitigate damage in the event one does occur. It can detect vehicles at speeds of between 4 and 80 km/h, and pedestrians at from 10 to 80 km/h.

The automatic headlamp function has been adjusted to switch on earlier at dusk or in poor visibility and a 360 degree overhead view monitor is now available: Using four cameras on the front, sides and rear of the vehicle, this system shows the area round the car on the central display. Eight parking sensors at the front and rear detect proximity to obstacles, and an alarm sounds when too near.

Mazda Rader Cruise Control (MRCC) combines a millimetre-wave radar with a forward-sensing camera, reducing its minimum operating speed from 30 to 0 km/h. The system works at all speeds and can follow the car in front even from a dead stop.

Finally, the CX-3 features Mazda’s auto-hold function, which continues to keep the car stopped momentarily even after the driver lifts his or her foot off the brake pedal. This improved and expanded range of active safety features combines with the CX-3’s outstanding passive safety performance to offer all occupants the highest levels of safety under all driving conditions.
