Toyota presents the New Highlander , the largest SUV of the wide Toyota range , introduced for the first time also on the European market in the Full Hybrid Electric version only .

The new Highlander will be one of the models that together with the arrival of the Yaris Cross in 2021 will complete Toyota ‘s SUV product offensive . A complete range that will go from segment B to segment E with a unique offer on the market, 100% Full Hybrid.

With the new Highlander Hybrid, Toyota combines its leadership in the development of electrified systems – 23 years of experience in the development of hybrid technology , over 16 million customers, 9 hybrid models and fourth-generation Full Hybrid Electric powertrains  – with the its legendary  QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability)  and considerable experience in the SUV market .

Taking advantage of the  GA-K platform  of Toyota , the Highlander combines all the features of comfort, driveability and safety of SUV Toyota with low emissions of the hybrid powertrain, the fuel efficiency and the intelligent all-wheel drive, large interior space and the towing capacity of 2 tons.

Design and Packaging

4966 mm long and with beautiful alloy wheels up to 20 “, the Highlander Hybrid combines the elegant, dynamic and sophisticated style of a premium urban SUV with the strength, power and safety of a solid and versatile 4×4 vehicle.

On board, the interiors have been designed to offer all the practicality, durability and on-demand space expected from a 7-seater SUV , creating a comfortable and quality environment for all occupants. The Highlander Hybrid has 7 real seats and 180mm of sliding second row seats provide spacious accommodation for two adults in the third row, as well as facilitating easy entry-exit.

The boot in the 5-seater configuration is 658 liters *, accessible thanks to a tailgate that can be operated by a foot movement sensor, and with an additional compartment under the floor, it can be significantly expanded thanks to the completely flat folding of both the third and second row of seats, bringing the total load capacity up to 1,909 liters **.

Available in black or graphite depending on the version, the interior boasts numerous storage compartments in the passenger compartment, complemented by USB power sockets in the first and second row of seats.

Premium equipment levels come to offer in the most equipped versions a 12.3 “center console multimedia display with satellite navigation, a head-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android auto , wireless phone charging, seat ventilation and a switchable digital rearview mirror that displays a wide rear image without the obstruction of the seat headrests or other occupants.

Driving dynamics

The Highlander’s fourth generation Full Hybrid Electric powertrain combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine with electric motors front and rear – the rear engine that equips the SUV Toyota with AWD-i (All-Wheel Drive -intelligent) – and a powerful NiMh (nickel-metal hydride) battery located under the second row seats.

Total system power of  248hp combined with CO ₂ emissions of just 149g / km (WLTP) represents the best power / CO ₂ ratio  in the segment for a non-plug-in model.

A driving mode selector allows the driver to choose between ECO, NORMAL, SPORT and TRAIL. All four modes can be used when the vehicle is in ev mode .

The use of an acoustic windscreen and front windows, the adoption of sound-absorbing surfaces on the roof, dashboard and floor, as well as soundproof wheel arches and load compartment linings give the Highlander a remarkably quiet cabin, emphasizing the characteristics of the hybrid , fluid and silent engine .

Safety

The new Highlander Hybrid features the latest ‘Toyota safety Sense’, a set of active safety technologies designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions in a wide range of traffic situations.

The Highlander Toyota safety Sense package includes the Pre-Collision System (PCS) with pedestrian (day / night) and cyclist recognition, the Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (i-ACC) with Full Range and Stop & Go, the Maintenance System Lane Active (LTA), assistance at road intersections and emergency steering.

The range of the new Highlander Hybrid is divided into three versions.

The Trend entry version   will be an outfitting designed for Business customers, already very complete and characterized by 18 “alloy wheels, LED headlights, 8 ” Toyota Touch 3 with DAB, wireless charger and smartphone integration , three-zone automatic climate control, Black synthetic leather seats, privacy glass, heated front seats, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and active safety systems with the Toyota safety Sense.

The Lounge version will   add 20 ” alloy wheels, LED headlights with headlamp washers, Black natural leather seats, driver seat with memories, electrically adjustable passenger seat, steering wheel paddle, power back door, JBL premium audio and satellite navigation.

At the top of the range is the Executive set- up  , designed for those who want to have a unique and full optional car with seats in perforated natural leather (Graphite), ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel, Panoramic View monitor 360 °, Smart Rear View Mirror, Head up Display, tailgate with kick sensor, heated windscreen, 12.3 ” Toyota Touch 3 with DAB and panoramic roof.

The Highlander Hybrid range starts from a price list of € 52,200 which, thanks to the Hybrid Bonus, turns into a promotional price of  € 47,200 in the event of an exchange .

The offer reserved for the Lounge, the heart of the Highlander range , starts from a price list of € 58,200 and includes a promotional price of  € 52,200 in case of exchange .

For the top of the range, the Executive, there is a price list of € 64,200 with an introductory price of  57,200, again in the event of an exchange.

The financial offer with  PAY PER DRIVE CONNECTED  will see installments starting from  € 349 per month , with an incremental step of only € 50 to reach the top of the range.

The new KINTO ONE rental formula   provides for a monthly fee starting from  € 459  (excluding VAT, 36 months and a distance of 45,000 km). An all-inclusive product that includes ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, winter tires with storage included and insurance services.

The PAY PER DRIVE is the Toyota program that provides the possibility to return the car at any time thanks to the Guaranteed Future Value. The CONNECTED formula also represents the first purchase product linked to the actual use of the car. The customer, in fact, will be able to immediately choose the km to be covered in a year and adapt the plan to the actual mileage over time thanks to the possibility of customizing the monthly payments based on the actual kilometers detected through the Data Communication Management transmission module installed on the car.
